please don't spread false information. just b/c the IS-F had false exhaust tips when it debuted as a concept doesn't mean that Lexus incorporated fake exhaust tips into the actual production version of the IS-F.

We have beat this topic to death on some other threads. The production version is exactly like the "prototype" shown. The debate is whether or not detached = fake. I say it is, others say not. There are some pretty high end cars with a similar disconnected design. Whatever you call it I sure don't like it.

I would say "not connected" if it's like the 1st pic but I'd say "connected" if it's like the 2nd pic. However, I dont like stacked quads, oval or round, they are ugly. The LP640 isnt connected but its exhaust looks good.

If I got an IS-F I'd remove 2 of the tips so it's just twin exhausts.

look harder. i know the picture does not have the best lighting, but its the best picture yet of the exhaust on the production version, and its pretty clear to me that they connected the tips to the piping.

if the topic has been beaten to death, then why do people still have to constantly be reminded of the truth? and if the exhaust tips on the production version of the IS-F are EXACTLY like those on the prototype, then why are the pictures of the production IS-F CLEARLY different and attached to the piping? this may be off topic as far as Ferrari California is concerned, but its not about right or wrong - its about spreading false information, which isn't cool. people just need to do a little research before blurting things out...

as for the styling of the exhaust tips themselves, yes they made me cringe when i first saw the rear end of this Ferrari. but i suspect that, if this Ferrari makes it into production, the exhaust tips will grow on me just like those on the IS-F did. do i like the look? no, not particularly. do i hate it as much as i did when i first saw them? not at all. would i keep the stock exhaust if i had an IS-F? no, and the aftermarket i chose would most likely have a better looking exhaust tip configuration. and i'd likely do the same if i had the opportunity to own the Ferrari as well. but that's not to say that these exhaust tips are ugly - they just aren't real attractive to me.

When you take the bumper off, and the tips come off with it. Is it fake? In my opinion YES. The production photos show the tips with mesh BEHIND. Exhaust tips are supposed to be attached somehow to the muffler, in the IS-F case it is not. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for Toyota to attach the exhaust to the bumper mounted exhaust tips as the muffler is subject to more vibrations then the bumper.

If you are going to fall for Toyota's muffler revision (a crappy one apparantly), then so be it. But as you can see clearly, there is no connection between the bumper-attached exhaust tips and the real exhaust tip itself.

They've done this with the Celica before, a move that showed that Toyota would rather care more about looks then functionality (Which is why there is stacked off-center exhausts in the first place).

ok, we obviously have a difference of opinion over a technicality. would i rather the tips not come off along with the rear bumper when its removed? yes. so there's a seem at the end of the pipes and the beginning of the tips that's not welded air tight. do you honestly think any sort of air leakage at that point is going to cause any sort of performance decrease/drop in back-pressure in the same way that an exhaust leak closer to the block (say where the header meets the block, or in the mid-pipe somewhere) would? the fact of the matter is that the pipes are now extended all the way to the tips. is it connected? technically i suppose not, and i have no problem conceding that. but its still functional, and any sort of exhaust leak THAT far back on the exhaust side and THAT close to the outlet isn't going to hurt performance. there, now we can finally stop arguing over whether or not the tips are "connected" to the pipes.

They aren't welded at all. That would prevent you from removing the rear bumper.

In regards to the functionality, I was not talking about the 'air leak'. I was talking about the placement of the exhausts which is very far from the path of least resistance (center).
