since I have a tune then the turbos and engine are sucking more air. My point is that the stock air box really is restrictive..BUT..performing a dyno where the fan is blowing tons of air directly on the filter will show very positive results. It just makes sense when you think about it. With the stock air box, it doesn't matter if the fan is blowing directly on it or not. the stock box is going to grab air from the same exact place.

I dyno'd my car stock... when I took off the stock airbox lid, I made another 10whp. Granted, not real-world situations, but I'd say it makes some difference...

Did you do just one run or multiple runs to let it adapt? The point is that at 8psi the stock airbox is hardly restrictive.

I did 2 runs with the lid on, and then took it off for another 2 runs. I didn't give it any time to adapt.

hmm...so what I'm understanding is that there is a pool of hot air just sitting there for the intakes to suck in?? If you're moving...and say at speeds of 60mph+...i'm sure you're getting some sort of cooling...I can't imagine just having hot air being sucked in constantly...Isn't that the purpose of the snorkel? Also...what about the ram air scoops that people make? those have to help too...

I'm really interested in how well this AFE heat shield will do in comparison with just the dual cones that are out there.

To the best of my knowledge the test was done with hood closed. They are very instrumented there so I expect they were very interested in AITs.
Don't forget these are the same guys whose intake on the E36 M3 makes 26hp proven and between 12-16 in front of my eyes on dozens of E46 M3's. I have sold hundreds of the E46 kits along with our Superchips software for incredible performance gains You also have to look at the velocity stack design of the kit. So they are increasing air pressure over distance here and I have proved on our 135 that intake velocity makes HP and Torque. Since they have also included the air snorkel so that it aims fresh outside air at the filters helps to cool things down more. The cooler the air to start the more effective the intercooler will be. i just placed an order to try these badboys out. regardless if they perform better or as good as the regular dual cones, these just look so much better in the engine bay. i sure hope it lives up to the hype. the order you will see to hawaii, thats me! :-)

Jeff,
I would be happy to test your product in the same objective manner I tested 6 other filters recently. We also have a Mustang Dyno, and I feel that my testing process would result in an accurate measurement of performance gained/lost by this intake. Refer to my previous tests for more information. That is a very nice offer! However we have already scheduled a test to be done this week or early next week as a "Proven" article with European Car Magazine. We will be doing the test on our car on the same dyno we have done all our tests so it will be a very accurate same car same dyno type test Thanks, Jeff Eurobahn |
