I totally believe the dynos because i've seen it for myself.
If people are asking if this gain is for the real world then the answer is no.

When we drive there is only an allowed amount of air to go to the intake.
If we drove around with the hood open then I would say that these results are real.

Yes, I think this intake is the best on the market.
Yes, I believe that the flow is better than stock.
But, I do not believe that you will see gains like this in real world conditions.
You saw these kinds of gains because you have a tune... I doubt that stock cars would benefit that much from this intake. They probably need to clarify the dynos they show on the website... and like everyone else, I want to see independent dynos for stock and tuned cars.

If your car is stock you dont need an intake, period.

Oh, I think you'll be surprised, but you do have a point.
since I have a tune then the turbos and engine are sucking more air.

My point is that the stock air box really is restrictive..BUT..performing a dyno where the fan is blowing tons of air directly on the filter will show very positive results. It just makes sense when you think about it.

With the stock air box, it doesn't matter if the fan is blowing directly on it or not. the stock box is going to grab air from the same exact place.

I dyno'd my car stock... when I took off the stock airbox lid, I made another 10whp. Granted, not real-world situations, but I'd say it makes some difference...

Did you do just one run or multiple runs to let it adapt? The point is that at 8psi the stock airbox is hardly restrictive.

I did 2 runs with the lid on, and then took it off for another 2 runs. I didn't give it any time to adapt.

hmm...so what I'm understanding is that there is a pool of hot air just sitting there for the intakes to suck in?? If you're moving...and say at speeds of 60mph+...i'm sure you're getting some sort of cooling...I can't imagine just having hot air being sucked in constantly...Isn't that the purpose of the snorkel? Also...what about the ram air scoops that people make? those have to help too...

This is true, but the air coming in through the snorkle going to the filter is combining with the heat of the engine whereas the air going to the air box only has to deal with radiant heat from the engine.

I'm really interested in how well this AFE heat shield will do in comparison with just the dual cones that are out there.

I think its a very promissing design, since the heat shield should provide nearly the same heat isolation as the stock airbox which should be cooler than not having the box at all.

Too bad we don't have some IAT's to compare this setup with...

To the best of my knowledge the test was done with hood closed. They are very instrumented there so I expect they were very interested in AITs.

Don't forget these are the same guys whose intake on the E36 M3 makes 26hp proven and between 12-16 in front of my eyes on dozens of E46 M3's. I have sold hundreds of the E46 kits along with our Superchips software for incredible performance gains

You also have to look at the velocity stack design of the kit. So they are increasing air pressure over distance here and I have proved on our 135 that intake velocity makes HP and Torque. Since they have also included the air snorkel so that it aims fresh outside air at the filters helps to cool things down more. The cooler the air to start the more effective the intercooler will be.

Do you have more extensive photos of one that is installed?

I have seen a few pics, but not many. It would be nice to have some more.

We will know very shortly! I am using a laser temp unit to get the dual cone numbers in the morning and then will check the filter inlet temps on the new intake

I agree the sound is great! But heat soak is definitely a problem. And there is not a bunch of cold air getting down there while driving either. aFe really put a lot of time into the intake. Even on a turbo car with inter-cooler, the colder the air to start the more power you are going to make.

Jeff,

I would be happy to test your product in the same objective manner I tested 6 other filters recently. We also have a Mustang Dyno, and I feel that my testing process would result in an accurate measurement of performance gained/lost by this intake.

Refer to my previous tests for more information.

Hi Scott,

That is a very nice offer! However we have already scheduled a test to be done this week or early next week as a "Proven" article with European Car Magazine. We will be doing the test on our car on the same dyno we have done all our tests so it will be a very accurate same car same dyno type test

Thanks,

Jeff

You should compare it to the other intakes you sell as well.

I'd really like to see that. No offence to you Jeff ,but I doubt that a filter would add such kind of HP gains. If this is a fact ,then we are talking about an impressive product.

It will be tested against the stock air box and the dual cone set up we have on the car now. We no longer sell any other intake for these engines.
