the grass is the biggest issue. Whatever you put it on to roll down the hill is going to sink into the grass. controlling the decent would be easy enough with a winch or come along.

even with 3 strong friends moving a 1k pound safe is going to be incredibly tough. I've watched 3-4 professionals struggle moving the safes around my business and that was with no tools and no slope.

Thought about that too. Problem is they only deliver it to your driveway, and I would be back in the same spot.

you can rent these things. Electric Dollys. make moving shit around super easy, especially up stairs.
You can also use lifting slings. they make it easier to hold, which in turn makes it easier to maneuver/lift.

Pay someone. When I bought my gun safe online I had it delivered to directly to a local safe retailer that also moves safes. They delivered and bolted it to the foundation. All together it was about $300. If you don't know what you're doing, pay someone else that does.

Closest that I have done was move a hot tub out of a backyard, that was 7-800 lbs. We flipped it up onto a large dolly, and rolled it on sheets of 1/2" plywood. But we had 6 people pushing/pulling, and 2 others moving the sheets of wood as we went, and we were going up and out, not down. Many hands make light work or something.
Granted, the old owner said that we made it look much easier than the guys that he had paid to move it previously. |

here is what is required to move a safe and if you so not know what you are doing especially going down an incline on soft ground you are asking for trouble and lots of expense verse hiring someone who has done this before. If you hire someone and they do not show up with something like these do not let them touch your safe.

I've recently begun thinking of my weekends as being worth $500 a day. if I can save $500 and do something myself, but blow a whole Saturday or Sunday doing it, fine so be it. By the time you coordinate with 3 or 4 dudes, get everyone rounded up, load up, move, unload, move into the new place, then take everyone out for pizza and beer to celebrate no one dying, you've blown the whole day. Not worth it in my book. |

My safe weighs in around ~1300lbs with the interior stripped out. I've moved it twice. Here are a few tips. A heavy duty appliance dolly (not the one at Harbor Freight) can actually do the job if you have two strong guys behind it. As for your grass, that's a little tougher. How about a long strip of scrap carpet? Put it down on the grass and just let the safe slide down on it's back. Obviously you'd have to speed up or slow the decent at times so make sure it's tied up to something with a pulley or two at the top of the hill to give you leverage. When I was by myself I used a bunch of 4ft lengths of PVC pipe. I just layed them on the ground and tipped the safe onto them - then just rolled the safe across the pvc pipes (moving the "used" pipes to the front of the line as I went etc...) A tip for tilting a big safe by yourself is just open the door all the way LOL. Or just use a whole lot of helium balloons.
