Cleaned the engine bay a bit.

"Fixed" the headlight washer leak (left corner), by terminating the tube prior to the coupler that goes to the $14 pump on Amazon that no one has on Prime. Who needs to spray headlights? I assume this approach will increase the pressure to the other headlight washer and probably blow its rubber bits to pieces. Oh well, I have also learned to not wash my windshield when the sun is down and the headlights are on !!!

Very nice car. I have the same combo on my '11 335, but auto and with the aluminum trim.
Where did you get the trunk lip and how well did the color match?

Thanks Jeff! The lip was from Amazon, I think this one. The paint color is spot on. It's cheap and a light touch that nevertheless, adds a bit of structure back there.

Splurged on an wind deflector (used but looks brand new, OEM, $315). Will post pick when the weather cooperates. Come on already!!!!

Update:

Oil and filter change at 58,xxx miles.
Bought a used stage 3 intake locally and had it installed. It needed a new large DISA valve.
No tune for now. Just reset the adaptor settings.

I am not floored by what the increase in airflow is delivering in terms of power. Some improvement but could be placebo. I do hear more upfront I think and car seems a little more responsive. Need to drive it more as it but on initial drive it is not that big of a deal to me. Perhaps I need a tune next.

Question to others who have done this, engine is running hotter is that normal? I would expect so, since more air, more gas, more bang?

You need a tune to activate the disa and use the manifold properly. With just swapping the manifold you are not seeing the power gains that are the whole point of that swap.

I agree with you.

A bit lackluster without the tune which is strange to me cause the DISA are connected and communicating with my ECU.

BTW what sensor wires did they plug in those DISA given that my prior manifold did not have DISA?

Clearly I am curious and looking for education. Trying to find out here.

Your car already had the plugs for the Disa. On the non 3 stage equipped cars the 2 wires have plastic caps covering their ends and just sit attached to the side of the standard manifold, waiting on the owners to wise up and swap a 3 stage AND A TUNE... haha

Yes I found out after asking you the question. Pelicanparts website had the answer describing the location of the 2 wires on the side of my old manifold!

Still and I ask only to learn here, why would the computer not be smart enough to realize that more air was coming in (after an adaptation reset) and that it needed to adapt the map to increase gas delivery rate etc...?

You are saying that those old wires were plugged into the new DISAs and no reading/ sending of information is going to them without a tune?

More air *isn't* coming in. You need a tune. The 328i computer is *specifically* programmed not to use the 3 stage manifold, to prevent people from a cheap upgrade. It's connected and it can activate the valves, but the thresholds on the 328i are all set so it doesn't do anything.

Plus you still have the nerfed valve lift, lean AFR, reduced torque maps and slower throttle maps from the 328i tune.

You need the 330i tune at least.

You guys are making sense. Especially when you are talking about active communication with the DISAs and threshold that may be stuck. Torque maps and throttle maps I guess don't adapt.

Good stuff. Looking forward to the tune then!

Pretty stocked, I found these wheels equipped with 50% thread on 4 blizaks locally for $400.

They appear to have the TPMS thing running in them because the display did not throw a tire code. Am I correct in assuming this?

Went from a staggered 18" setup to a square 17" setup.

Hey Oli, what was the eventual fix for this in the end? Did the carmax "leak specialist" divulge what was done beyond the already replaced seals at the top of the A pillars? My E93 has begun to have a small leak from the same areas. It's just beginning....want to stop it now.

I never spoke to the carmax guru. From what I can tell, he injected some butyl like compound at the corners where the rubber gasket comes close to the metal of the roof.

Finding some pics...

From above, looking straight down the passenger window area :



At corner (left panel is roof panel, and to the right is the top of the windshield, you can see the shinny area where that butyl-like compound I feel, was injected.

Still driving the car and all is good.
A small leak at the right corner has reappeared when it rains hard for a long time. Not too worried about it.
Still did not install a tune. Car feels good this way. I do get a sense that power output was increased by the greater intake. The delivery is not all that smooth and kicks in when I push up above 3000 rpm. Feels good actually.
I think I am starting to smell an oil leak. VCG?
Changing oil once a year since I don't drive too much.

A funky high pitch static-like noise can be heard in the cabin, only when turning left and more so when braking. It is an electronic like noise that does not come through the speakers. Seems to be matched to rmp too. Anybody heard this before?

This thread was a fun read. I have a question about the cluster cleaning. How did you ensure it remained dust free when putting it back together? A few years ago I saw a single speck of dust behind the plastic and decided to take it apart to get rid of it. I wish I never touched it because since then, I’ve never been able to clean it to the point where there’s no dust specks inside! So I made it worse, basically. I gave up in the end and currently have several specks of dust, including a couple resting on the actual display screen.

I used compressed air when I did it.

I wear new disposable vinyl gloves and a microfiber cloth and do it inside where there is less air movement. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe I have bad vision and can't see the specks of dust that were initially bugging me.

Boy I don't post here much.

The car is still lovely to drive.

It needs tires now, as I have been enjoying the extra power feeling from the larger air intake.

Changed the battery today. H8 900 CCA. I will take it to shop for coding battery, they do it for free.

Got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (will be able to enjoy next year).

Decided to try these tires through the season as they are "All Seasons".

BTW, drove in steady rain for like 3 hours at highway speeds (+ a little) and these tires are fantastic.
