Just got a call from the Indy mechanic stating that the drive belt tensioner needs to be replaced as it is wearing out, but the belt looks fine. The cost of changing both the belt and tensioner comes to $392 .The window regulator assembly for the rear left window must be replaced too as the window is not sliding up . That is another $400. Total : $800. Is the price reasonable?
I did mention about cleaning the VANOS Solenoid and swapping it out but he says it is not required. Apart from this, is there any other maintanence work i should ask him to do/check while he is doing the Drive belt and tensioner or nearby the drive belts that will save labor later? Thanks |

I tried my hands in DIY and replacing parts and messed up big. So i am uncomfortable in doing it again. Wish some of you guys were closer to Upstate NY so I can come to you instead of Indy.

Fair enough, everyone has their own comfort levels! I would say that 300 for a tensioner seems high - mine buckled and siezed last year, got it replaced at my (not so cheap) indy for about £150. Would have DIY but I needed the car that day. Sometimes paying someone else to do it fast is just the easiest way
