I mean if you have older index 10 or less injectors, is it worth getting them professionally cleaned as opposed to buying a set of new Index 12 injectors? |

You don't get any money back. You buy the new set for $1800, then replace your old ones, then send them back, then they refund you on that $1800 you just spent on the new set.

I would never advise someone to buy a used index 9. They are absolute junk. Unfortunately, I have personally confirmed this too many times

Bought my car with 9s. All were working fine when I bought it, 3 months later they had all completely failed lmao

Sounds like they lasted longer than my 7s, started having big issues after a month and a half. Conveniently just past the BMW dealer's little "warranty" period

Still kicking with my index 01's on all six cylinders, but if cleaning and servicing is viable and beneficial I also don't see why I wouldn't pull them and ship them in for the service. |

For those commenting on index-9s - Yes: in retrospect I should have modified my post above to encourage folks to replace with 10/11/12s if possible. 9s are probably the least reliable of all the injectors for the E9X, BUT I don't want to make a sweeping statement that they are all junk. I am running with one of them in #6 position and have had zero problems. When one of my original index-1s died, I did not want to replace all of them with 11/12s because of the insane cost of those versions. At the time, all I could find used were the 9s, so I was comfortable rolling the bones and got three used and pressure cleaned 9s for $105. The way I see it, at that price they are almost disposable, and swapping one out takes me maybe 25 minutes. So for my use case scenario, they were an acceptable choice.

I don't know enough about the engineering of the piezoelectric BMW injectors to know why it took BMW versions 1 through 12 to get it right, but they are definitely refurbishable. FCPeuro.com sells refurbished 12s, but they are not a whole lot less expensive that brand new ones.

It's weird because you rarely hear of index 3-5. I think a lot of it was experimenting with different casting methods trying to figure out something cost-effective and reasonably reliable. Remember they were rushed with this motor because they had to compete with the likes of the VQ35. I'd bet they weren't totally done squaring everything away and were very quickly trying to find cheaper, reliable injectors due to pressure from accounting.

I have index 1 injectors.
Engine has 124k km on it. E85 use for 7 years. 95% track use only the past 5 years. Did 10.7 1/4 on them last wknd. The price of new injectors is so high its really worth looking at getting an aftermarket ecu and removing direct injection. Well thats my plan when index 1 dont work. |

122,000 miles with the original injectors in my 2006 35i with no injector related issues....so far
Have owned the 35i for nine years & have done 70,000 miles during that time, have only ever used Shell V Power, maybe that's helped with keeping the injectors in good order.
