Strange, because I don't seem to get judder on hill starts. What do you mean, use just the clutch to move off?

Well in most cars I would balance the clutch and the throttle, however with this car I have to move the car just on the clutch to move off until I have released the clutch peddle completely and then I can apply throttle. This means moving off from stop can take a while!!

If I apply throttle while I still have the clutch coming up, then the juddering is unbelievable. Almost like your not applying enough throttle however if you do apply more it just makes it worse.

PeteJ, I recognise exactly what you're describing, except I don't get it on hill starts. But yeah, moving off can take a distressingly long time, and meanwhile you watch decade-old Ford Ka's and Renault Clio's zooming off in front of you!

I should say, I'm off to see Anthony at Speed Religion on Saturday - he's fitting some Black Lines for me - and he's offered to let me have a go in his car which has the CDV replaced, so I should be able to report back on that experience.

I'm just glad it's not just me having this problem as all the dealers I've spoken to just say "I've never heard of this before, and we have loads of these cars in for servicing". To say it's embarrassing would be an understatement. Not what you would expect from BMW.

That should be interesting! Mine is going in on Friday for investigation into this, so shall report back.

Did the CDV delete today. Honestly, I think there is more of a placebo effect than anything else. I can barely noticed the improvement over stock.

Yes I would agree with you 95%. It's definitely easier to shift from 1st to 2nd gear, without the jerk that usually results. At lower gears, the "bite" can be felt slightly better through the clutch pedal. Other than that, I don't see other gains. If I knew this beforehand, it's a 50-50 chance I would continue with it.

That's funny. Well I did notice the clutch a little smoother, but the 335 clutch was already smooth to begin with. The main reason I tried this mod was to see if the 1st/2nd shifting got any better...which IMHO didn't improved at all.

Mine does it at random times. i just put up with it. Reported it to service and they said to use more throttle!! Don't fine 1st to 2nd at all bad, but the juddering does make you feel silly with a anyone else in the car, i end up explaining to passengers about it!! Actually I cure it evry now and again by doing a standing start from 3-4000 revs and slipping the clutch, it is always fine them for a while.

My bro, who is an ex VW / Audi mechanic now a race team lead tech, says this is due to modern asbestos free clutches leaving deposits on the metal pressure plates.

Just give it a good standing start every so often and it will clear it up. My 330i does it from time to time.

Or gently dip the clutch whilst acccelerating in say 3rd, (not full bore), to let the engine revs rise a little, for 2 or 3 seconds. that slippage will clean up the pressure plates.

Yeah or 15 like me and carlos did at santa pod lol..but i cant say ive ever had it.
