Koni has developed struts for the Xi on the previous model (E46). Recently, they've developed the rear struts for the E9x AWD models, provided by the Dinan s-1 package. The front struts are still no where to be found. I'm sure they will come out eventually, meaning those with springs can finally do the upgrade (few hundred dollars cheaper than getting coilovers). It's a waiting game from here.

Hopefully reallyslow will provide some good news with the xi strut + non-xi spring combo. I'm hoping for a lower ride with the same comfort level provided by a non-xi vehicle.

subscribed. Hopefully Koni releases the fronts this spring. Why would you only want rear struts and not want to replace the fronts? Are the front stock struts that good??

no no no they suck but even the springs which are supposed to drop leave the front end a little higher (looking) so swapping out the struts might help with that as well as soften up the ride a little

That's actually a good question. I do know that there were individuals in the E46 community who had the H&R springs on OEM struts; eventually they would blow their shocks after approximately 10K miles. However, I don't recall anything like that happening on the E90's. Either everyone is being cautious and buying coilovers, or those with H&R springs/OEM struts haven't blown their original shocks yet. People say that they have a hard ride, but other than that, haven't had any issues.

Maybe there IS a reason why Koni didn't make front struts (for the Dinan xi suspension package). Can anyone get in contact with Dinan and chime in on the reason? That'd be great.

Besides the struts lasting less and the ride being hard, I thought one reason to not go with the H&R springs was due to the spring rate was not matched to the stock struts, hence why the struts don't last as long. Unless Dinan/Koni manufactured a matched sport spring to our stock struts, I don't see why they would forget to make front struts and only require to replace the rears.

No one forgot anything.

Koni just doesn't make a set of shocks for the XI.

The rear on an XI and an I are the same, so the Koni 335 I rear shocks will mount on a 335 XI.

Dinan just thought :
- grab a set of springs,
- grab a rear pair of 335I Koni's,
- Profit!

It's just a half-ass kit that you can put together yourself.

That's what I figured. Just comes to show what a company like Dinan will do to make a buck, instead of working on a full solution.

I have my heart set on the bilstein b6 and b8. They are available in europe for the XI, and a company in the UK offered to sell me a set for roughly 800-900 USD shipped....

OK finally an update. I got the front springs in, and it took longer than expected so the rears aren't done. I probably won't be able to have the rear done till thursday.

I happy that they at least fit, but i havent driven the car yet. So these pictures probably aren't the best representation of the drop since the springs havent settled or been driven on. It seems like its probably the same drop as the xi springs, which is what i expected, but maybe im wrong. Im sure it will settle a bit too once i take it for a drive, and ill take better pictures once the rears are in...

thank you for your enquiry,
we usually only sell in Europe, however seeing as you are a bit stuck with this one we are happy to help - please see quote below
shipping would cost £111
Description Part No Price Qty Amount

BE5-C042 - Bilstein Monotube Damper BE5-C042 £88.24 2 £176.48

VE3-E247 - Bilstein Monotube Damper VE3-E247 £152.53 1 £152.53

VE3-E248 - Bilstein Monotube Damper VE3-E248 £152.53 1 £152.53

Subtotal £481.54
Export Surcharge 5%
£24.00

Shipping
£111.00

Total £616.54

Doing the math, it would be roughly $900 USD for a set which isnt bad IMHO. Alot less than running KW V3s and also alot easier to install as its plug n play. The quote above they provided is for the B8s

so that pretty much sums it up that XI owners can buy i springs and they should fit. Since the rears are identical, the real problem was the fronts..
