Well alas we dont have a multitude of mapping/tuning companies over here so thats not exactly easy.
And i would trust the hub dyno more than a roller any day I will get it to a different RR this week (roller type, Superchips agent) to confirm/disprove and base my decision to keep the map on that So we will ACTUALLY see JJ |

Hit the nail on the head jinjur, all this business of who you go with for a remap and availability of rolling roads etc is based on your location, so comes down to conveniance and if you travel a lot. If you are in a remote area or are very busy, you have to go where you can. Good luck getting it all sorted.

Cheers Neil....will keep you posted. Would like to ditch the smoke but if it smokes it smokes Incidentally, a HEAVY drive today revelaed no smoke visible to me.
And for the record 1700T.......160Bhp to 205-210 'ish is the norm for these cars is it not? Are we all wrong? Neils bluefin produced the same ish with the same torque.....how is it not possible mine is around that? It started as 177Bhp yes, but its essentially the same engine? JJ |

No one came around to explain
TBH jinjur's car didn't under read pre-map. mine came out at the same pre-map BHP so I have no reason to doubt that.

I had mine RR'd at a "nothing to do with the tuner", commonly understood to be cautious but repeatable, Dynojet place. Healthy Stock cars make stock power at this dyno. I consider it accurate. Brutal, but accurate.
My own view when people post that "everyone knows that car X makes more than the manufacturer claims" is "happy dyno". Anyway, back to the point, mine's a 163 and it did 196bhp/295lbft Had another map loaded since then, and butt dyno says it's definitely gained over that, mebbe 10-15 bhp.

The torque figures are obviously corrected differently than the ones in my post... but the BHP is reasonable for a 163 mapped.

Incidentally,
The 212 map has been backed off ever so slightly to get rid of the smoke. Now, less smokey and not as pokey. Still no independant RR but by driving it in comparison to a standard 163, night and day. JJ |

That's very true Carlos!!! I have to say mind, I may just be used to it now, but at times, my car feels like the remap has vanished and feels back to normal again!! odd sensation, probably just my imagination, is the ecu clever enough to alter the power slightly to the way you drive? i.e a lot of slow driving makes it dull and a lot of regular quick driving perk it back up again? The mpg has got much better mind, now a regular 42mpg on the way to work and back and after a 60 mile drive, b roads and dual carriageway late last night, 48 mpg, so well pleased.

I'm not a fan of RRs...... its not a real world situtaion and figures can vary dramatically from one RR to another. A car insied a woirkshop with the bonnet open and a fa blowing over it in now represents the reality of driving, but its the best you can get unless you hook up the equipment in the back seat and take it for spin.
So, whole RR figures give you a good indication of what the power might be you can't claim its that all the time; humidity, air temp, air mass (altitude), etc all affect the intake and therefore the power porduced. That said, 163ps (160hp) to appropx 210 is a damn good hike in power not unbelieveable at all. I know some of the VAG 2.0D 170hp engines with a new turbo, DP, exhaust and map have put out over 240hp, so no reason why you can get in / around 200-220 from these BMW units. I think there more inside them as well.
