Dinan runs rich but his AFRs are a bit off, it should stay around 11:1-12:1 in the high RPM range. His fuel pump may be failing which could explain the dip and strange AFRs.

OP are you experiencing MPG loss? A failing fuel pump does not atomize fuel correctly which reduces MPG and HP.

Thanks captain obvious! When you buy the flash, they tell you it's NOT transferrable...move on.

Honestly, I wouldn't take a chance without a warranty in this car. I've already had $15k worth of warranty repairs on my car... nothing due to tuning, but just bad parts. All paid for by Dinan. And I personally know of 3 e9x's, 2 of whom are on this board, that have had their warranties voided in full due to either PROcede or JB3. And you can't say they were stupid because they didn't take their tunes out, because 2 of the 3 did and still got busted with codes we didn't know about back then... and now there are BT readers to delete the codes, but what else do we NOT know... back then, we thought those piggybacks were invisible...

Ya, that's what I'm figuring....but strangely I haven't noticed a real dip in MPG.....

but the car did feel more powerful immediately after the flash...it was also a LOT colder then, so it's hard to say whether it's temp related or not.....

If what was temp related? The lull, mpg, or power?
BTW, great data!!

An AFR that rich just can't be good for the car either.

There's nothing risky about running the car that rich under boost. Just a waste of fuel/mpg.

This is what Dinan had to say in an earlier thread about why the Dinan tune runs richer. The question is whether the OP's results are too rich.

The Dinan tune runs richer than the JB3 and stock because it's necessary to run a richer mixture when increasing boost. As you increase cylinder pressure by adding boost, the mixture needs to be richened for a couple reasons. The first is to reduce detonation, a side effect of increased cylinder pressure. Incidentally, the reason why the JB3 power curve is so lumpy is because the knock control system is actively pulling timing back in order to save the engine from detonation. The second reason for a richer mixture is to reduce piston crown temperature and catalytic converter temperature to ensure long-term durability.

Our tech article titled "Safety Strategies for a BMW Turbo Control System" is a good resource for more information:

The other thing that you guys should realize is that

1.) I still have Cats
2.) The AFR measurement was taken from the tailpipe, and only ONE at that. So, the measurement itself isn't entirely accurate.

Anyways, I thought I should mention that......

Chime away!

Not when you only run rich under boost. Washdown is only an issue if it runs excessively rich at idle, cruise, etc,.

That seems a little low, I gained 63hp and 78 ft lbs. on a Mustang AWD dyno. Original stage 2 flash. I can still get 27+ mpg too, and I drive fast.

Just wait until something blows up and Dinan covers everything. I've seen Juiceboxes blow holes in motors.

No other mods. All my charts are on here, videos of lag and max boost levels with mine. Go back and look at some of my old treads. Probably around March/April 08. I have had zero problems with the car (19k miles) Still runs like a champ and has nice power delivery.

There still is being raw gas dumped into the oil system. Fuel dilution in Oil will serverly reduce its lubrication ability... increasing wear especially if extended oil change intervals are used.
