Yep thats what i thought.

I have disconnected the rear sensor on my car (so that it does not wear out) and just keep an eye on the pad wear myself.

They are at about 5mm at the moment so will change them now shortly - and reconnect the sensor.

Good ideaa to maximise use of pad, will do same mines at approx 4mm. Any idea what pads to use Main dealer or other make.

Disconnecting the sensor won't stop it wearing out as contact with the disc does that. You'll need to remove it from the pad.

Yep thats what I mean.

I detached it from the pad and cable tied it up to the brake hose.

I just went for main dealer pads.

I think what was meant was remove sensor from pad and tape out of way to stop the wear as you say disconnecting will do nothing bar show a fault. Thats what I intended to do anyway. More difficult getting at the connection for the sensor anyway as its inside rear bumper. On previous Z4 sensor contacted disc with still a good bit of pad to go.

Beat me to reply, do you mind saying how much for pads at dealers. I have seen quotes for £240 + for job done.

Hello Roger Mate

new Gearbox and clutch. Wow! I went to see Ant after i picked up the car. Remember he was giving me the aero lip. I would use hime

The 335i is still going great. Just reached 16000 miles now. Have the SSTT chip installed now but have new JB3 in my kitchen awaiting fitting. Also planning getting an LSD as I'm fed up of spinning the inside rear wheel all the time! Still haven't fitted the aero lip, M3 rear spoiler or rear bumper but will get there in the end. Have recenly gone from H&R springs to Eibachs and have to say they are better. More vertical control I think.

Always thinking of an M3 but can't justify it now that 335is have dropped value so much.

I have bought a caterham7 to keep me content though!!! 400 bhp per tonne is fun and they don't lose value either!

I bought new OEM pads on Ebay for £40. They only come up now and again though.

I'm getting charged £73 for the two rear pads & sensors and £60 to fit (1 hr labour) by Ant at SpeedReligion which sounds fair enough and means I keep my hands clean (and it's done properly!!). All the dealers round me were charging £270ish!!!

I'm now a little confused as to whether I need new rear or front brakes. My recent MOT claimed my rears only had 4mm left but no mention of the fronts. The cars screen tells me I've got 11,200 left on my rears and 4,200 left on my fronts. Brake warning light permanently on. So, who is right, the dealer or the computer. I guess the dealer (for once) as they've been physically poking around recently.

I'll just get Ant to get a full set ready just in case...

Spoke to Ant at Speed Religion earlier and booked my car in on Friday for a full set of Falken 192's and brake pads .

I asked him about my confusion over which pads need doing (rears as per the dealers comments or fronts as per computer). Ant suggested the onboard computer 'should' be more accurate due to the actual sensors and predict, due to driving style, age, etc, pretty acurately the amount of life left in them. If he's right then God know what the Dealer was looking at (prehaps he confused the front of the car with the rear ).

Anyway, all will be revealed at the end of the week, Ant has everything in stock so is prepared to do what it takes .

I'm a little nervous I'll get a bit carried away and start sticking things like performance breaks, new alloys, onto the credit card .

This is right. The wear sensor is only in one of brake pads on each axle.

My car showed 8000 miles left on the countdown sensor for the rear brakes and the wear sensor did not activate.

However my dealer reckoned that the wear on the rear pads was uneven and that one pad (one of the ones without the sensor) was below the advisory limit.

It's not a very satisfactory system and you are left with deciding to trust the dealer or check it out for yourself.

I had 8k left to go for my rears. After parking up in airport car parks for two weeks they got jammed on solid on the drive home from the airport.
