A few questions...
1. Do the originally xenon equipped e90's have the same controls? 2. How do I just turn on the angel eyes? 3. Can I install BREX or PMB's before putting these xenons on the car and follow the same procedure? 4. Per this information, "This conversion will give u an error for 5 sec if the car is started and the light switch is in the OFF position. YOu will get NO error if you start the car with the light switch in the ON position," is there any way to get rid of this message? 5. Would a dealer install the xenons for me--following this DIY--and how much would they charge? Sorry for the questions -- getting my xenon's tomorrow and you guys are like the electrical gurus. can anyone clarify? just got the xenons on hand...
some people have been talking about height sensors, footwell module's, a bombardment of wires to get rid of the error msg... how expensive (out of my pocket) will it be to get no message... but foremost, can anyone answer my previous post? |

no one can confirm the 2 threads (questions) above?
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31276 it seems that without the footwell module, there will be an error msg? |

2. Just turn your light switch to the running light position, which is one click before all the lights are turned on. 3. Putting Brex, PMB, PIAA or any bulb in the housing before installing would be the easiest. I did this with my PIAA bulbs. 4. What you stated is correct. A couple people, mainly ADHD(the brains haha) and myself(i've thrown enough money at it) are trying to figure out a fix. ADHD is trying to order a euro footwell module to see if that fixes things and I'm working with my dealership to do a complete swap, wiring, sensors and all. 5. Maybe? Depends on your dealership. Mine in particular said yes and currently I have spent a little more that 1K on the install to date. That is including the wiring modification currently provided, footwell module, and all install time. I do have adaptive euros so for me to do a complete install(getting the adaptive features to work) can and may get pretty pricey. The current set up I have does get rid of the error message but not without problems. My high beams will not stay on, I can flash my highs but not leave on. If that's something that wont bother you then just stop there. I maybe use my high beams about 5-10 times a year for longer than just a flash. Thus I can live without it. I'm still down to doing a complete set up though.

darkcloud... thank you for the info...
I mean, I posted again per your information on your last thread... Given that, I don't care much for the highs as long as i can flash them... so you're saying that I will need the footwell module to be completely error free? James |

Yes, the footwell module will give you absolutely no error. No error = No leave on high beams, but can flash. Error = Everything works fine but you have an error.
That's why I got the footwell module. I do all city driving or highway so I never use my highbeams. Just make sure after you, dealership or whoever you have install your headlights, take the car to a dealership and ask them to get the part number(footwell module) for your error from programming after you install the headlights.

I could figure out the part number I have but there are 4 or so different modules so there is no saying the one I have will work with your car. If your dealership does the install of the headlights and footwell module be prepared to spend $1k. If you just have them install the lights it will be more like $600. I got the footwell mod for $370 overnighted to my dealer. ADHD got his for $320 but it took him almost 2 or 3 weeks to get it.
Yes you can do the install yourself. ADHD says he's got the install down and can do it in like an hour and a half. But he's across the country from you. Personally I don't like messing with wiring so I would have had someone install them even if my dealer didn't agree. The footwell mod is a lot easier to install so I hear but I never looked into it and just had the dealer do it. I do know they put the car back in programming once everything was installed and updated everything and 'told' the car it now had xenons. If I were you I would call your dealer first or maybe go in with all the install info and talk to one of the SA's. If they see the paper work they may be a little more into doing the install instead of just telling them and they just say no because it "sounds to hard". I could always give you my dealers number and the SA's name I worked with so your SA and my SA can talk, it might help.

is the error message you get the same thing as if you were running out of windshield washer fluid? That little triangle with the exclamation point inside it?
I really wanna do this but am just iffy on the install part. Not sure if my dealer will do it either, i need to ask.

Seems that the footwell module something w/ 999 will get rid of the error msg. And yes, that's the error msg everyone is referring to.
The footwell module and xenons (us spec) cost me approximately $1200. Now, with the footwell module, the error will be gone--but that doesn't mean that your car doesn't have a "flaw." without the complete retrofit (which is a helluva lot of wires, height sensors, it will never be like stock). Also, in order to get no error, you have to go to the dealer to install... It seems that they actually have to reprogram the car. Last edited by SE3P_to_E90; 11-17-2006 at 04:14 PM.. |

On another note... As we all know, Modding is extremely addicting... so i just forumulated a question.
If i decide to put on Euro Non-Adaptive Xenons with the 999 FRM, will i have no error at all? As in, nothing will be wrong with the car, and it's as if it's stock... This is based on the fact that there are no height sensors involved, etc... anyone? |

Just got confirmation... the highs will not work even w/ the module (999). Matt confirmed this. However, since i'm the only one trying to run adaptives, and adhd has the non adaptives, it seems that there is a slight chance that my Highs might work.

I suggest you read the entire original post on this subject. Print out all the install guides and pictures. You need to know everything possible about this so you can point to what needs to be done when your dealership asks.
I'm not sure which part# I have for my module so I'll have to find the box. I do have adaptives and it's a good chance I have part#999 but I dunno. ADHD and ///Matt are waiting for a euro module to see if that helps. It should be in soon and then we'll know how that goes. My dealership is looking into how much it will cost to do the rest of the conversion per the BMW PDF about xenon conversion.
