Would you guys know if it possible to switch to a European ECU on a US model 335d?
This way it may be easier to tune, due to a large number of options outside US.

Dinan has nothing on their site about diesel tuning.

I don't think that this would be possible as the ROW car doesn't use urea technology. I am sure that they next ROW car will have it.

It would be nice if all cars across the world had to meet the same set of standards...

Steve Dinan is going to be at a local BMW dealership here in Southern California on Wednesday, and if I end up going, I intend to ask him what Dinan has coming up for the d.

Pretty sure that you can't swap the UK and US ECUs, though.

I checked out their website numerous times in the hope that they would have something for the diesel models too.

Yeah, it was one of the first things I did when I started researching my d. I talked to the Dinan guy at BMWSD when I finally placed my order, and he said he hadn't heard anything from Dinan at all about any thoughts of working on the d.

I hope now that 2nd model year of the d has hit the states, and there are several strong rumors that BMW will be bringing more diesel cars over, it will be hard for *any* of the tuners to stand up and pay attention, Dinan included.

The only thing that's always pained me about Dinan is the cost...but they
are the only tunes that a BMW dealership will install, and will enforce the BMW warranty.

would the climate differences affect the ecu? ie. euro tune would be different from stateside tunes due to differences in altitude, weather, etc.

I don't see why there could be such a difference between the two continents as far as weather is concerned. Most of the States in NA have a similar weather as Europe.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but even with an ECU remap the US spec diesel engines still has a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF aka urea injection). Since I don't think the diesel exhaust fluid is used in the European vehicles yet (correct me if I am wrong) have any US or foreign tuners figured out how to do any of the following on US spec diesel BMWs?

1. delete the DPF with a straight pipe
2. eliminate/disable the urea injection
3. bypass the egr system
4. replace the swirl flaps with fixed plates
5. do any of the above and code to eliminate errors/check engine lights?

Basically just convert the engine to an old school straight piped diesel which should increase performance and fuel economy but likely lower emissions quality. Unless you live in the Northeast or California the car should still pass emissions in most states and this shouldn't be a problem.

Alot of what I just discussed is already done regularly with diesel trucks from GM, Ford, and Dodge as the new emissions systems are causing alot of long term problems with diesel engines. Basically US diesel emissions standards are too strict for passenger cars and trucks but I digress...
