ED - How many holes do they drill into front bumper (2 or 4)?

You can beg to differ but since I have had cars registered for export by BMW with the smaller plates and in Germany with standard sized plates, I can only surmise that, if the two plates you have are the exact same size, the "real German plates" are not real.

Just drop by the discussions on B'fest where people constantly ask about a license frame which is almost impossible to find for Ausfuhrkennzeichenen because of their smaller size.

That's strange. I got the German plates at a store next to the registry in Eussenheim. I'm sure you know this, but that's how the locals get them too. They have them made at these stores, and get the two stickers to put on them at their version of the registry of motorvehicles.

I didn't even know you could do just have the plates stamped, but I went with my uncle to get new plates for his new (used) car. At that time, I had some vanity ones made up for me. They are the same size as my Zoll Nummernschilder.

I would guess that you either had your plates with you and they duplicated them but with the (D) plates - or they noted the Z in the number and made the plates the "correct" size.

by the way, my car (ED) has 4 holes in the front. 2 big holes used to mount the US bracket. I am not sure how the other 2 smaller holes were put on... maybe they used long screws to mount the EU plate on the US bracket and punched additional holes. anyone with the same experience?

I was going to get plugs for the big holes but i am not sure anymore with 4 frigging holes.

Thanks 4-series now you've got me worried. :/ I was hoping there was just going to be 2 holes from the US plate holder and that I could use bumper plugs.

I don't think I'll have 4 holes though because the screws holding my euro plates on were about 3/4" long. I just dropped mine off on 3/18, when did you drop yours off?

Can anyone else that's recently dropped off comment please?

I also thought the same in terms of the euro screws being short. not sure how the other 2 holes got on

i dropped it off late Jan.

I've got the same. They are the two screws to mount the plate holder and the two screws that mount the tag to the holder. They are just long enough that they leave two really irritating dimples in the bumper.

Confirmed: Received 4 holes. 2 for mounting the US bracket, then another bone-headed 2 holes for the Euro Plate screws that go into the US bracket AND THEN into bumper!

Dealer wants $250 to fill, sand, and repaint.

Or $50 in bumper plugs...

Yeah, just saw the post from JSpira and beewang.
Glad BMW is doing it, because for those that never want a front plate, the permanent damage for a temporary ED plate is very lame.
