I don't understand why some people post info that's not based on facts. I just checked Ford's website. 2010 For Taurus AWD start at $37,010 not $45K as it was stated by others.
But even with this price I don't think they will be able to sell well because people looking for performance sedan like me would want the full package which is powerful engine AND handling. Obviously 365hp qualifies as powerful engine but according to each article that I read handling is poor as usual. |

Yes I know this is a BMW forum, BUT any MFR creating an engine with similar characteristics (365hp Twin-Turbo) for a similar tag-price causes me to create comparisons to my own 335. |

With all due respect the Ford GT was plagued with problems. Ask Jeremy Clarkson. He owned one. But to set the record straight, I LOVE the GT. It was a ballsy move by Ford and it paid off. I also drive a BMW, but would I pay 45K for a SHO? Id rather get a used M3/ boxter and call it a day. Lighter, smaller, nimbler and faster

Seems like good competition for the soon to be gone G8 GXP...
People seem to forget that in 1986 the Taurus won all kind of awards...Hell I still see those second (1991-95) Taurus driving around with saggy suspension. They still drive...I don't see a lot of E30 bmw on the road(They sold less but the remaining ones are in terrible shape) or they just end up in one of those euro specialist mecanics as part cars. I like to see alternatives out there.....Hell if Toyota comes up with a TRD camry I would give it a shot...why not. There is not only Bmw out there. Out of the 3 american brands Ford is the best by far. The Fusion is good, the fiesta, crown vic all their cars have been reliable for a while. They also have all kind of good incentives.

So the funny thing I noticed about the new Taurus was the original car debuted in the film RoboCop, and now the new Taurus front end kind of looks like RoboCop.

I was excited when I heard about the SHO, but this one just is a disappointment. The original SHO was one of the cars that pioneered sports sedans. Only offered in manual (for a few years at least), very aggressive looking (especially in black!), highly bolstered interior, and could destroy any other 4-door sedan on the road (of course, except for the E28 M5 and eventually E34 M5 in '91). The new one just flat out does not look as aggressive, doesn't even come in a manual, and doesn't handle like a sports sedan (they didn't even upgrade the brakes from the standard Taurus!). If I had a choice between this and an original SHO, give me the original, that one always was and still is more fun to drive!.

I know someone who just bought a G8 GT for around 30k... I would take it over the SHO. 4400 lbs just is never going to make for a very engaging drive outside of a straight line...

FWIW, they are using solenoid injectors, not piezo like the N54, and the injector sits on the side of the cylinder head, which gives the piston a 'unique' top surface shape (they 'bounce' fuel off of it).
Here's a cutaway: |

I rember my friends dad had a 91 SHO when they first came out. He would always remind everyone "it's the fastest sedan under $50,000" (which was a lot of money for a car in 91), although they were still spendy for a Taurus.
The new one is just too big and overpriced, but I really like that new DI Turbo engine. It's nice to see a domestic pushing that kind of technology...many similarities to the N54. |

Car and Driver reviewed this and basically said it's fast in a straight line but too heavy to be a real competitor to the best sports sedans out there. They said it's not particularly exciting to drive, both from a handling perspective and a sound/feel perspective, and looks too much like a regular Taurus (though for some I'm sure the "sleeper" factor will be a bonus). They also failed to get over 20 mpg, even at consistent speeds on the highway. They posted some pics comparing the new SHO to an early 90's SHO and it's shocking how much larger the new 1 is, it looks like an Explorer rather than a Taurus!
If I was looking for a domestic sports sedan and the CTS was out of my budget I'd get a G8 (or whatever the inevitable Chevy replacement for the G8 will be) well before considering 1 of these.
