The Porsche Turbo was worse though, really sensitive to the slightest touch of the key fob even from inside the house.

More often? I think that any more than 5 or 6 times a day might be viewed as bordering on obsessive.

A knock on the door this morning and my neighbour is telling me the windows are open on the car and it's got lots of snow in it

I have CA and the only way I could have done it is by pressing the arrow on the fob in my pocket for a couple of seconds and I cannot see me doing that by accident

Has this happened to anybody else?

Unless you had the keys in your back pocket and sat on them.

my old vert used to open from about 250 metres on the fob, and was always unlocking with the key in the pocket by accident - current coupe key only works from about 10 metres - methinks they may have made it less sensitive for a reason - anyone else found this on later model cars?

Hi Steve,

Was the car unlocked also, or still deadlocked??

If it was open, looks like you somehow pressed the unlock for a while (nearly 10 secs to get the windows fully down)

If its still locked, then maybe there's an electrical fault as you can't remote open the windows without unlocking the doors first..

The car was still locked and the fob stays in my pocket but I can't see how the arrow part could have been pressed long enough to open them. I did try to open with the arrow button and I had to keep it pressed for a good few seconds before they opened.
I have a leather cover round it and it is quite difficult to operate it by pressing the button through the leather.

The key fob was in my front pocket so I couldn't sit on it!

Hi. I'm on an E92 57 plate and this has been happening to me too. Most recent was 2 days ago and I am certain that 1) I locked the car 2) did not press the key fob by mistake afterwards. As it has happened in the past, I now always unlock and then relock the car with the fob just before I shut the house front door and hang the keys up.

I have had one incident of window/s open in the morning as well. Car is booked in for this Friday so let's see if they find anything...

This has happened to me a few times over night as well, put it down to catching the fob in my pocket however......

Last night the car unlocked itself whilst we were driving. Neither me or the wive pressed the unlock button in the car and it's not possible to knock the key fob when in the ignition. We were turning a corner at slow speed, approx 10-15 mph and 'click' everything unlocked.

Might be related.... change in temperature affecting the locking modules???

Car is booked in for this Friday so let's see if they find anything...

Okay an update. After my post on 26/01/10 the car was unlocked again on the morning of 28/01/10. As you can imagine I had been very careful with the key fobs, since it had only happened a few days before, and was booked in to BMW for 29/01/10, so I am positive this is a fault and not me being dopey.

So, I dropped the car in 29/01/10. Upon pick up that evening, 2 other small items of work were done fine, but they"could not find a fault making the windows open". I re-explained it was doors unlocking that was the main issue, windows was an added side affect once. I asked if they can check via diagnostics the times of doors being opened and closed but I am told they can not.

I could make do with out the car, so I left it with them until Monday 1st February. I pick it up and they say they still can't find a problem, and are not aware of any wider issue generally. I point out how careful I am being to make sure the car is locked etc, and that even if we were accidentally opening the doors, both fobs are set to re-lock the vehicle after 3 minutes if the doors are not opened. So if this is the case the car should still be locked in the mornings (unless someone is in there within 3 minutes). They agreed but have no answer.

I asked them if they had checked with BMW Assist is it was possible that the remote unlocking signal could be being sent by accident. They had no idea what I was on about, or that this service even existed, so I will be making sure that they look in to this. They do say that, with the car under warranty, it is in their interests to identify and rectify any fault, as they will get a payment from BMW for the work they do, which kind of makes sense? They asked if the alarm sensor was on or off - I think it has always been off, which they say means the fob must have been used, but which I maintain is not the case.

For now they have asked me to 'keep an eye on it' and to record if the the alarm sensor is on or off. An occasional electrical fault is hard to diagnose, but I wish they would try harder to look in to it. I have already lost a digital camera and whilst I try and keep the car empty sometime this is not convenient. I am also curious as to why, when I mentioned doors unlocking as the fault to the receptionist booking the car in, she immediately asked me if the windows were opening. Why would someone ask this unprompted if they were not connected?

In the meantime I wonder if a short post polling the various E90/BMW forums as to whether any one has ever experienced an unexplained door unlocking might be worthwhile? What do people think?

Definitely. I must lock the car 20 times before i got to bed. I've turned into some OCD type freak.

I mentioned it at last service but got the standard "we can't find an issue".

I'm actually thinking about selling the car and part of the reason is because i've had a few £k worth of stuff stolen and don't trust leaving anything in the car, which is a PITA to worry about.

There have been these suggestions for a fix:

- Replacing battery in key
- Checking door actuators
- Identifying faulty door/hood/boot/petro cap sensors
- Recoding the general module
- Checking faulty boot wiring loom

With the favourite item being faulty door actuators.
