Are there any mechanics or Technical people who can tell me the exact amount of Power Steering fluid an e90 330d takes.
There is nothing in the owners manual and google brings nothing up either ? . |

Well I added some Power Steering Fluid "conditioner" today which stops seal leaks and conditions.
I was dubious about this, but my thought process was that if I need a new steering pump at £400, or indeed a steering rack at £900, I may as well try it for £9 from Halfords, as it will not harm anything and if I need one of the above parts, the whole lot will be flushed anyway. So I bought some, put it in straight away outside Halfords so it had a good run back home, and so far it seems fine, although it does say it may take a few days to stop the "morning squeal" as the stuff gets to work, and then forces the air out completely. For £9 its worth a shot ..... + I have to wait a few weeks for my warrant to "settle in" . I don't usually like this sort of stuff - but its harmless and worth a shot I reckon. |

Just reviving this thread, I had a new power steering pump fitted, the seal was hanging out apparantly from the PS Pump, which was allowing air in - but not leaking much at all.
The fluid fix, did not work, so bit the bullet and forked out £521 to get the PS Pump replaced. I am now - touch wood - fault free. . |

The fault was not evident until the pump was actually off. I am glad it was that too, as a new sterring rack was the only other thing, and at £900 for a new one I was glad it was the pump
Mine was not really leaking - it was the noise that was the identifier. . |

I got a squeak (like a mouse) turning left to right. Only at below 10 mph speeds. (While parking). so far have found that i must add grease/lubricant to some part of steering column. Other input appreciated.

I had the same issue when parking and realised that the fluid on the reservoir was at the minimum level. try to check this and add if needed. after few days the noise ll disappear. you could try to bleed it and refill a fresh one too (again till the max point)

Hi, i had a similar issue with the noise etc...and it turned out to be the alternator and housing! was loose and rubbing on the belts and made an awful grinding and judder at full lock only! took BMW 3 attempts a new battery and snapped belts to realise it was the alternator housing and alternator!
