Manon went red in Halifax - so she's on to NY and the CDN cars should have been unloaded! Cargo tracking doesn't reflect this for my car but I expect that info to lag a bit. Can somebody check AISLive, I'm on my PDA/phone and can't do it.

I presume discharged just means released to CN..How did you get this info?

Don't know the exact meaning of
"discharged"; at the least the car was offloaded from the vessel. I interpret it to mean that the car is at the CN Halifax Autoport. I may call CN next Wed or Thu to see if they can tell me anything.

congrats guys on your cars finally touching down on land! how long does it take from Halifax to your respective dealers? we just received my wife's X3, took about 1.5 weeks from landing to our driveway. (including 3 days of dealer prep)

Thanks for the well wishes. My suspicions are that doing ED and then having to wait again to get your car back in your home town are almost as painful as having to wait for it for the first time. I read stressdocs post on ED. I will definetly do this on the next BMW I buy. I should have done it this time.

Not exactly sure how long it will take to get the car to Edmonton, Alberta. The variable seems to be how long it will sit in Halifax. CN Rail has a calculator that you can use to estimate the time of travel. Painfully it lists my delivery at just over 2 weeks.

You said you got your wife's X3 in about 1.5 weeks? Was this ED too? I hate to ask, but was there any damage in the shipping?

As of this morning the VIN search tool is registering the VIN. My suspicions are that the car is not loaded on any rail yet.

Does your employer/company do business with CN? Did CN call you before creating your account or did they just send an email saying it was setup?

Nope. My company does not do business with them.

All I did was fill out their registration form and then they send you an e-mail to activate the account.

As of this morning, the tracing still does not validate my VIN. My suspicions are that the car is sitting in some lot waiting to be loaded on some train.

I will check periodically.

Hey there. We did not order her X3 through ED; by the time we decided to get the X3 it was only 3 weeks before my scheduled ED, so it wasn't possible. As far as I know there was no damage given that it was so quickly shipped from the port to my dealer.

As for ED, I highly recommend it. The folks at BMW ED are great, plus the new BMW Welt looks like it is going to be amazing. Also, the Munich factory tour was great, so in all it was an amazing way to pick up a vehicle. The wait does kinda suck, but I have been working so much lately that I don't think about it all the time! Unfortunately for you, the USA ED program is so great with the savings we get that it more then pays for the trip. I am under the impression the Canadian arranged ED is not exactly cheaper? ANyway, hope your car gets here soon.

What wheels are you getting for winter weather? I got ZSP so we are keeping my wifes Honda Accord, that way I will drive that when the weather gets rough.

Registered, got the email, clicked the link, but the subsequent message said that the application needs to be "reviewed" before activation. We'll see what happens.

However in early December I told my CA about the ability to register with CN and track shipments and suggested that he do it, and he confirmed on Saturday that he actually did register. So if I don't get an account I suppose I'll start bugging him again for updates

The Toronto-area boys from the Undine took delivery within 15-16 days of their ship landing at Halifax. So disden may very well be the first to get his car!

disden, I think Holeinoneboy had said he purchased Michelin Artic Apine II tires and style 188 wheels. I purchased a set of Sport Edition E2 wheels from Tire Rack, and will be using an existing set of Pirelli Wintersport 210 tires this winter and then I'll buy new winter rubber in November. I've been using that particular brand of winter tire since 2000 and have had no trouble getting around in the snow/ice. I tend to stick with whatever works

Spent the last couple of days trying to get more tracking info from CN Rail. Needless to say that the Velocity quick trace web site is a piece of $&*#.

I even called CN directly. Unless we have a container number the call centre can't trace via VIN. I asked why then do they put the VIN search function on the quick trace web-site. She had no response.

So I guess we are back to just bugging the heck out of our dealers. I called mine today. He said that once the car is loaded on a train they get notification and then can track it from there. As it is he said that the car can take between a few days and a week to get loaded on a train. For me, once it is loaded he said it is 2 weeks to his dealership here in Edmonton.

So there you have it.

It is getting closer though

My car was listed as discharged from the Manon on 1/2/07; so luckily it has arrived. I live only 90 miles from NYC, so hopefully it will be here next week! barring any damage of course.

I guess I spoke too soon about CN Rail's "Velocity" tracking web-site.

By chance I entered my VIN number today and found out that my car left Edmundston, NB this morning. The interesting part of this is that it lists the ETA in Edmonton as Jan. 11th. This surprised me that it can get from New Brunswick to Alberta in 6 days. I am a little skeptical of this so I checked with my dealer and they have the exact same information.... we'll see...

So if you are Canadian and if your car is to be shipped by rail, then the CN Rail Velocity tracking web-site can help you with the last leg of your journey

I got shot down hard when I tried to register. Had an email exchange with Roxanne who eventually told me in no uncertain terms that I had no business with CN therefore no business logging into their site.

Alrighty then.

I'd be inclined to believe the info you're getting from CN. And if your car is pulling in on the 11th then my car should be in Concord early next week. We'll see!

PiperD... I would have thought that you would be posting pics by now...surprising to see that it can get over the Atlantic, across Canada and yet take so long to get to a dealer.

My car arrived at Cloverbar railyard yesterday. Dealer says they should get the car some time next week... it's driving me nuts knowing its so close and yet no definite date for pick up yet... oh, well, it is what it is...

I purchased new wheels and winter rubber from the dealer. They will be putting them on along with installing my iPod interface cable when I pick up my car.

Hey what's your take on clear car bra? Do you think it is a good idea?

Seems to me that it is a choice between a dust line on the hood or rock chips... I have heard that 3M is releasing a new product this spring that guarantees not too yellow for 5 years. Not sure if I would wait that long though.
