Definetly get a lawyer. It cost me probably $1000 or so for the lawyer. In Virginia where I got it, I was on my bike, zipped around a slow car in the left lane holding up traffic, turned out to be the Manager of the Technology department of Arlington County (like Westchester to DC). The guy was a douche to say the least, he had a field day with me humiliating me. At court, my lawyer got me into the "aggressive driving program" dropped most things down to misdermeanor status (it was like 85 in a 55). At the "aggressive driving program" the cop gave the instructor passed around photos of my speeding to embarass me in front of 30 other people I'd never met, so we spent the first half of the class making a bad example of me...

But luckily I didn't have jail, or a suspended licence. Personally I think speeding is way over abused in court. Really, do you really need to handcuff a person for speeding??? Jail? really??? I mean, take away the licence, fine; but unless you hurt someone, I find it hard to find a reason to put someone in jail. Drunk driving, ok, speeding, really... in the UK it's 80mph everywhere, do they have more deaths? no, it's all about attitude and safety, they're pretty safe. NY has the worst drivers in the world, The Bronx especially so.

the beginning of the month and the end of a month is when the County or state police go out to get their quota of fines from people. And with incentives for Police officer to get bonus overtime . Also since NYS and NJ are in a budget deficit they will try to generate money from fines. BTW dont you guys use radar/laser detectors ?

The entire country is in trouble, budget wise . Even with this billion dollar industry we call "tickets," this country as a whole is screwed. Next 20 years are gona be fun.

Hey which court house are you suppose to go to? i know a judge at the county court in westbury. If you email me a copy of your ticket ill see if he can help you out at all. He got my boss's gf out of a 66 in a 35 in a work zone with just a seat belt ticket and $175 fine no points or anything

They tried to give me 1 year in Jail ... but my lawyer kept fighting and Fighting... then the said they would give me 20 Days in Jail 2 Misdemenors on my Record and REVOKE my license for Good... But my lawyer said we would go to trial ( which the Court doesnt want to do ) ... We we agreed on a Suspended License , a Misdenor on my record, They have me on Probation for the Year and 50 Hours of community service, I had about $5000 in lawyer fees, and $2500 in Court fees... Any other question just ask.


My friend was in the same situation and he got 10 Days in Jail and a couple of hefty fines.. no community service, all depends on your judge.. They take Speeding/racing VERY seriouly in Nassau criminal court, they will have you sitting next to drug dealers and what not on court, just for speeding.

My lawyer wasnt the Best to be honest, i had others who could guarantee no record and just fines... but they cost alot more... if i would have known that from the start i would have went with someone else.. i can recommend a good one if you like.

god damn... if you have to speed like that come to jersey... a grand and a lawyer gets you out of almost anything with at most a suspended license
jail time for speeding is insane.

The guy who represented me is a high school history teacher who does law for fun, and represented numerous other board members.

I had similar infractions. I received 3 pts, 50 hrs comm service. Thats it.

Not disclosing payment, but it didn't even go into 4 digits.

Jesus, all that for speeding? That's insane. Makes me feel a bit better about waiting to put performance parts on my car. I can get up pretty high as it is without much effort. Glad you didn't serve any time, though.

Normally you can take a plea bargain if you plead guilty to the speeding ticket. In NJ anything over 90 is wreckless driving. I was clocked at 110 in a 55 when I was 17. The trooper gave me 90 in 55 and wreckless driving....both 5 points.

Plead guilty to the speeding and the judge dropped the wreckless driving. Took a defensive driving course and now that time has passed I don't have any points...I think. Anyone know how to check? Without paying one of those sites.

its officers discretion on the reckless. I have three tickets in triple digits, but only one came with a reckless attached, and the judge dropped it for a guilty plea on speeding

as for checking your points, a trip to your local DMV can give you all the information you need

jamming radar is illegal in all of the US but jamming laser is not illegal here.
