Try keeping the CA remote in a pocket without coins, keys, metal objects.

Has anyone found a fix? Also I think it would be very cool if I could set it to unlock both doors when I get close and lock both doors when I leave the vicinity with the key. At the LEAST I want BOTH doors to unlock when I open drivers door....is that possible?

Thanks for help!!
I just tried walking up to my door, fob in pocket, pulled on the handle...and 10 times out of 10 the door did not open!!!!

Oh yeah, I don't have comfort access. My bad.

The more I focus on my CA, the less reliably it works. If I don't think about it at all, it works 100% of the time. Maybe the car can tell how CA-paranoid I am or something.

Here's one

Has anyone washed thier car down with the key fob in your pocket? On mine I can be 6-8 ft away and spray around the door handle(s) and the car will lock/unlock! Somehow the stream of water acts to transmit the signal to the car. CRAZY

Just the other day I washed my car and I was surprised that the door was locked when I tried to open it.

Do you have metallic tint? That has caused a few people problems with CA. If not, I'd suspect the key battery or the software update. 5 times out of 10 is ridiculous.
Bk, I LOVE THIS -- the part about not having the key in your pocket. My car is en route to the dealer now, and I am reasonably certain that at some point I'm going to follow in your footsteps.

How many of you with CA have gotten out of the car and forgotten to shut it off? It happened to one friend of mine with a Lexus, and my salesman has reported it happening to at least one other customer of his.

This has happened to me once in awhile, but not too often. My door wouldn't open with my left hand; So I stuck my right hand between the door handle and door, and it unlocked. My friend chuckled then asked if it doesn't work with one hand, you try another?

HAHAHA I think its hilarious that everyone has a "trick" to getting CA to work well..."slowly approach while hopping on 1 foot and thrusting your hip at the car. If car is sufficiantly amused it will grant access...if not car will laugh in your face and spray windshield fluid all over you while exclaiming "PISSOFF!!"

Seriousely...my last car had this same feature and same tint. Never had this issue. The "slowly grab the handle" approach seems to be working best though...overall I still love CA as not having to fumble with getting key out etc is worth the sometimes aggravation. Thanks for all of the helpful "rituals"

So, today I actually GOT LOCKED OUT of my car b/c my CA malfunctioned!!! I inadvertantly kept my keys in my work bag, which I threw in my trunk and closed the trunk (before unlocking my door). Well, as all of you with CA know, in this scenario, the CA should NOT allow the trunk to close and lock...but it did, and I was locked out of my car!!! SO, thank goodness for BMW Assist...I called them (I couldn't exactly press the BMW Assist SOS button since I wasn't inside my car), and they helped me.

On a good note, I have to say that BMW Assist is great; they have a fairly new feature called "Remote Door Unlock" which enables them to wirelessly send a signal to my car which unlocks the doors for me...how cool is that!!!! Anyway, it worked and I was able to get into my car, open the trunk, get my keys, and go on my way. Needless to say, I called my dealer's service dept. and scheduled a service appt. to get my CA looked at as I do not want this to happen again...my CA clearly malfunctioned today. It should never allow you to lock your keys inside the car!

Just in case you didn't know, the way to prevent this is to leave the fob in the car (or in the house I guess). I keep mine in the fob slot while washing.

Mine isn't finicky at all about where I stand opening the doors. The only time I sometimes have an issue is when I try to open my trunk from the side (no room in the garage to get behind the car). It likes the fob behind the car not next to the rear quarter/bumper.

I think most people with tint and CA have metallic tint and they seem to have no problems. But some people have reported sporadic problems with metallic tint and CA. Apparently, at least one CA receiver is in the rear window, so metallic tint on the rear window could theoretically interfere with CA operation. I've often wondered if the people who think CA doesn't work so well on the trunk have metallic tint, because I've never had a problem opening the trunk.

+1 - I keep it in the fob slot or, more often, laying on the front seat. Solves the problem of the car freaking out when you spray water on it with the key in your pocket.

Oddly, I've never had the car act funny when it's raining and I walk up to it. But the time or two when I started washing it with the key in my pocket, it (and I) didn't know what the heck was going on. Then I'd realize the key was still in my pocket.

As for walking up to my car without the key. I left my house in the morning for work, reached behind the handle as usual, and... nothing. I thought, "That's weird." And so I figured it was a glitch and I tried again. Still nothing. I thought, "Damn stupid CA. I knew it would malfunction sooner or later," and I tried again. I was really pissed now. Stupid BMW electronics. I should have known better. Then I realized the key was still inside the house.

Would have been priceless if you called BMW roadside assistance first before realizing that the fob wasn't on your person!

Yes, it is very irritating - the water makes a circuit across the CA contact points and voila CA is activated. The people at the car wash look at me like I am some kind of freak, so I leave the keys inside the car on the seat now and don't have this problem any more.

Gotta be the ribs.

At delivery I was told to touch the ribs on the handle to unlock the doors, or just pull the handle to unlock the door.

Unfortunately these don't always work if I use the wrong hand.
In other words, CA has problems opening the drivers door when I grab it with my right hand. I also have problems if I try to open the passenger's door with my left.

All I can figure is that the sensors need more contact to know that they are being touched, say an index finger or thumb, rather than a pinky/ringfinger.

LSS: I wonder what that says about our cars?
