The police make no money from cameras whatsoever. Any revenue/profit from the cameras is put into a big government pot that gets dished out to the various road safety groups, units and departments that in turn operate the cameras and other road safety initiatives. Police forces are just one of the bodies which receive a fraction of this amount of this money and they utilise this to improve road safety and operate the cameras which the government state they must use. The fact that the government are now saying these revenues are not going to be given back and that these bodies must find the funds they once received means a lot of police forces, local councils and the Highways Agency are stating they will no longer use Gatsos and speed cameras as they will cost them money out of already tight budgets.

In effect speed cameras only ever paid for themselves, not for the Police to have a knees up on the speeders that ultimately committed the offence in the first place....

....and thats coming from someone who's fallen foul of a speed camera 18 months ago.

If you knew you were breaking the speed limit then you should do the right thing and hand yourself in to the Police.

I don't think so. The NIP has to be served within 14 days.

There is no obligation for the Police to prove that it was received, but it has to be sent such a manner that in the ordinary course of events it can be expected to be received within 14 days.

In otherwords, they have to allow for normal delivery times.

You should have first asked them to justify why they were not following ACPO guidelines in writing, holding your reply until you heard back from them, I think you'd have heard nothing.

Also interesting as AFAIK no mobile laser camera is approved for use in the dark.

The police are just pawns in all this. the only money makers are the scameraships.

Why do you think they are classed as Partnerships? because unlike a LTD Company there is no requirement to make your accounts public, just like Solicitors or Doctors.

They also have to send it by first class, so if its franked second class you're laughing!!

With all this newfangled internetto gadgetry fitted in some beemers, you could input your card number and then when the car detects that you have passed speed limit sensors it can send a payment along to your friendly speed camera partnership.!
