Beware that accepting tips in many organizations is a punishable action. I would however recommend giving your guy a nice xmas gift...find out his favorite drink and buy him a nice bottle

Agreed, but my guys have no problem with cash lol. I dont tip anything crazy $30-50 depending on the job. I was more pointing out the lack of David1's knowledge of what really goes on if you ACTUALLY have mods on your car. He talks like that because he doesnt have shit done to his car. I think he should refrain from say comments like this, "Originally Posted by David1
There is no reason to tip. Tipping to make sure work is done or look the other way is a bribe. Might as well wipe their ass and give them a BJ and in the end you will still have to lube up and grab your ankles at some point."

I am modded and the techs know it and I only remove some of the mods depending on the service needed. At my dealer you are not allowed to talk to the techs but I know a couple of them outside of work and I never tip. They are not even allowed to work on BMW's outside of work unless it is their own car or it is grounds for dismissal. When my car goes in I do not know who will be working on it nor do I care (I shouldn't have to anyways) and have never had an issue. I do not post what I do to my cars since they are on the forums. In my business I fire anyone that takes a tip or I catch them accepting lunches or gifts from suppliers. Once you start down that tipping path they start to expect it and then demand it later on. I expect them to do their job as I do mine.

I have had to release people because of accepting tips or gifts. We even return holiday baskets from suppliers back to them durring the holidays and they all have instructions not to do so and is frowned upon.

Well I believe that your business is far different than most of the world. I get most of my clients gifts for their business....a bottle of wine, gift cert., round of golf. It shows appreciation IMO.
As far as my car goes, I believe it shows that they payed EXTRA attention to my car because I do tip them. Many of times I get him to look over my "modifications" to ensure that I did the proper install. I have told him countless times that he is the only SA/Tech that I go see and they love it...because I do A LOT to my car. Oil change every 3.5k miles, details, replace all fluids well before they are needed just to be safe. And usually they will knock a good chunck of the bill off or take less time than BMW recommends bc you and I both know that your car sits back there as much as it gets worked on, thats why I established a healthy relationship with the people that work on my car. You can do whatever you want, I just do what is safest IMO.

Not sure what your field is but non-cash gifts are acceptable during appropriate times of year for us. This does not constitute a bribe, and is viewed more as an appreciation for the business relationship than it is an attempt to get good service. That said, preferential treatment to certain gift giving accounts is not tolerated either.

Because I do and I want to keep my warranty for as long as I can...so I tip both my SA and my Tech(mostly him bc he is doing the actual work on the car) because its much harder to turn down(void my warranty) a friend than it is to turn down a total stranger. Its about showing them appreciation, not kissing their ass. David1 you need to get your head out of your own ass before you start recomending what people should do on this forum.
Agreed, I tip almost everywhere. It always shows you appreciate the service and it's not kissing up, in fact I find after some time at regular places they start kissing up to you when they know they have a respectful customer coming in. It just goes a long ways.
