If you're on summers, don't drive in any packed snow/ice as you will have ZERO traction. Slush you can coast through and if dry, shouldn't be a problem if driven reasonably.

Done seven winters on summer tires. I had snows before and although they help tremendously, in NYC they clear the roads so quickly once you dig your car out, you almost never have an issue.

You have no problems but the tires are so hard that it spins so easily especially when you modded....then again for Procede owners they can use the N/A mode this year and have no issues! lol

Off topic, but that's not actually correct.

BMWs give a warning when the temperature drops below 38 degrees, and they do that because when the air temperature reaches 38 degrees, the temperature of the pavement can actually be 32 degrees (freezing) or lower and ice can begin to form. The warning doesn't have anything to do with summer tire functionality, rather it is pretty much a "watch for ice" warning. You are correct however, about summer tire tread compounds' traction dropping off significantly below 40 degrees.

Yes, its a good idea to get a good snow tire if you plan on driving in the snow....definately. With that being said, I have driven my Generals in wet/icy conditions in NY/NJ in my RWD 335 and I really just babied the car home...nothing too crazy. A few cars that I had in the past had summer tires and same thing, try not to drive in anything over 2 inches of snow....its almost impossible.

Also, I do drive my 335 rwd after snow sometimes in NJ where the roads are salted or wet.....and i didnt notice too much of an issue. I think once the tires heat up on the highway and the read is relatively dry...your okay. Life expectancy wise of the tire?.....Havent seen any significant decline in life span in a year....Thats my 2 cents....dont over worry about it. Just go easy.
