Not sure how this can be a replication of your product when the shop does not even have a set to work from. Perhaps a similar process is being used to get to the end result but its difficult to suggest they are mirror image of your incredible work.

As for claims that they will outperform RBs, this is not very realistic. I think Far's post is trying to suggest a 50whp gain over the stockers, not against an RB turbo setup. He could clarify though.

BTW Rob, your product is fantastic, great work!

I apologize about the "50HP more" I should have not posted that until the turbos are put together and we have some dyno results. Sorry about that.

Thanks man, I do not want to have this turn in to a turbo war, just wanted a Canadian solution.

I apologize again for jumping the gun.

I guess it depends on how much you want to send on a kidney and where it is coming from I guess.

Farley may have misunderstood what I was trying to explain to him. Im not creating these to start a pissing match. The RB turbos are without a doubt a great upgrade that has been thoughtfully engineered. Im not here to knock them. Farley brought this project to me after I myself was looking for a turbo upgrade for this engine platform. I got in touch with Farley after I saw a post of him trying to find someone to build him a upgrade. He brought a set of used turbos to me to see what I could do. My setup is not a copy. I have been engineering my setup for the last 6 months. I have created many hybrid turbo upgrades for my clients including ones for the Nissan GTR, Porsche Turbo, Audi A4, and most recently the Bentley Continental GT just to name a few.

The additional 50hp will come from non generic mitsubishi parts. We have the ability to create our own custom billet wheels. This is something we will be developing after we have tested our prototypes and have a baseline. We have CAD engineered the programs for this billet upgrade to be as efficient as possible, thus resulting in the additional power.

Again, the RB turbos are a fantastic upgrade that has proved itself. Im not taking anything anyway from them.

Well. I'm all about competition. RB is available, right now, not tomorrow, not next year, we all know how that can be and the price has set the bar. Who knows, by the time this comes out maybe Rob has his own set up upgrades he's been engineering for the last 12 months as well.

A log longer than 12 months but at the same time i've always said the more options the merrier so all the power to SJL Customs and all others making this platform as entertaining as it has been the last 3-4 years...pricing and results always speak for themselves...

SJL, can you share some specs of your turbos versus stock with us e.g. compressor outlet ID, type of compressor wheel, type of turbine wheel, wastegate orifice ID, wastegate type of material, any CHRA machining, will you preserve stock oil/coolant lines/locations?

Our upgrade will install like stock. No additional modification to the stock location and plumbing necessary. Wastegate materials are made from 330 stainless steel. All components in these prototypes are MHI, (for now). I will keep my measurements under wraps until our dyno and performance testing.

Hey farbmw,

Are you keeping the stock turbo housing (turbine exhaust/compressor)?

Yes, SJL Custom is machining the insides so they can fit the bigger parts.

Its great the community has more options, this way some of the prices will start to drop...

BMW TAX is getting out of hand. $2400 for a set of STOCK HOUSING upgraded turbos, to PP, machine and put larger internals is a bit much, We just did a PP, larger wheel etc etc on a customers STI and the machine shop charged us $350...

Usually when many options come into play prices drop..

If they're still using factory housings, they can't be that much bigger. Also in for inducer/exducer sizes on both wheels...

It sucks that the turbo's have to be in stock configuration, only so far you can go..

it would be awesome to run a bigger compressor/turbine housing.

but that would require custom downpipes, manifold, intake pipes/ charge pipes/ sensors placement. ect ect ect..

it would be awesome to run two gt3071's

or better yet one big 60-70mm turbo..
