Yup, Happens a lot in the Sportbike world as well. Folks get off their old reliable, and initially their new ride seems almost out of their control. After a week or so you get acclimated.

So yeah do what herbz suggested, go drive the old car or the wife's SUV or something for a few days, then come back... Prolly be FAST all over again. If your clutch is slipping in a 300hp car you'll know pretty quick, shouldn't be any "Maybe it's the Clutch?".

No where close.
An alky kit can give you 20-30whp and no less than 50lbtq(you can get them from $300 with no progressive controllers)
a Mail in flash can add another 20whp cost $150-$200
a MBC will add another 20whp (cost around $75)
Cams give you 30whp on a Evo 8 cost around $400-450 for a set of cheap ones

That is about $1300 buddy. Many Evos are running high 11's with just over a $1000. Where have you been?

Don't get me wrong, the $1300 on a procede makes a lot of power but don't forget that those 70whp and 90 tq are to 2wd and dynojets dyno figures

This guy runs 11's and traps 117mph with about $1300 or less in mods:
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=235538

Here is another $1000 budget in the 11's:

Ignorance. Specially since is a car (335I)that no one has driven it for that long. Keep fueling the forums with your speculation genious.

I probably have highest mileage 335i out there. 9.5k. I've noticed a slight increase in power of late. I never felt it has gotten slower.

Funny... my Evo has almost 16k miles on it and I have had exactly ZERO problems with it. The only times it has ever been to the dealership is when I've driven there to pick up an oil filter.

Furthermore, the failure rate on properly tuned modified Evos seems fairly low, based on what I've seen in the forums, though I have no personal experience with it.

Wait... I'm sorry, but the fact it is AWD has little to do with the cost of tires, and the reason they wear so quickly is because the factory tires are very soft. And get your facts straight... the tires only last about 8k miles if you drive reasonably hard.

Besides, there are plenty of other options besides the (overpriced, IMO) factory Yokohamas. A set of Falken Azenis RT615 (also a very sticky tire, with a very stiff sidewall) will run under $700.

exactly, the factory tires are soft as hell. if you are looking for a daily driver, i wouldn't go with an Evo. and i was talking about replacing with original tires, not aftermarket ones. original tires for the evo cost about $263 dollars on www.tirerack.com. so figure about $1,052 for a new set not including mounting and balancing. maybe you need to get your facts straight

I dropped under 2k Canadian in my STi and gained 114 hp and 143 tq at the crank, hardly any turbo lag (with the protune @ 21psi) But like everyone was saying, I wanted a fast luxurious car so I got the 335i. don't get me wrong loved the STi and I will miss it in the snow. But in the summer I will be able to run the shit out of the BMW and not worry about blowing my tranny launching it. And for the tires wearing out cause the awd, with the STi the rears will wear out faster a least that was the case with me ( it you actually use the dccd, most people like saying that the car has it but they leave it on auto)

Wow there are soo many Evo owners watching this site. I would never trade my 335I, love it to death. It was feeling slow for a lil while but when I took it for a ride yesterday, I started really pushing ( always to redline). The car didn't feel too fast. An Altima pulled up trying to race, we were both doing 60, I let him go first and I dropped it into 3rd (gunned it hard to redline) then shift into 4th, the altima was no where to be seen. I'm 24 and this car doesn't feel too fast, however, now I feel like its just my perception. You have to be careful cause your actually going alot faster then what it feels like if you dont keep an eye on the speedometer. I never see the speedometer cuz my left hand on wheel is at 12 o clock and my right hand is on the shifter. Thanks for all ya info, and as I said, would never trade my 335I for anything.

What's the point of a fast car if it doesn't feel fast?

Evos and sti's are made just for speed, the 335i luxary with nice power. You can not compare the two, truth be told, evo and sti's are cheeper to buy and if you put the 15k difference in price into one, they will absolutley smoke a 335i, but thats not why you get the 335i. Im guessing all who have one like the luxary with nice power and handling. That is why Im hoping to get one sometime.

god add a procede and exhaust for power you will kill a stock sti or evo!!!! if you are bitching about $$$ constantly maybe you shouldn't be owning a bmw and looking into honda, toyota, subaru, mitsu instead....though mtsu has made some great turbo's for the 335..but they make turbo's for everything and everyone in between...these are totally different cars with speed as a similarity!!!! the bmw is NOT a born and bred race inspired rally car!!!!

yeah but put that 15k difference into an sti or evo, and bam, they will smoke the procede 335i anyday, but I would definately rather spend that extra 15k on a bmw.

Well i used to own a Evo 9 and when i first got it the car seemed realyyyy fast and than after acouple thousand miles it started feeling slow until i drove my friends 350z and realized the evo was not slow i just got used to the speed. For as long as i had my car it did not give me 1 problem. Im just happy i never got to the point where i had to change tires and brakes. If it wasnt for my parents not wanting me to get another Evo, they want me to drive something nicer i would have been driving another Evo. Dont get me wrong i LOVE the 335i too thats why it was my second choice.

So i dont think your car is getting slower youve just gotten used to it already

The way I look at it, to me, buying an Evo/STi/SRT4 is just pointless.

The whole reasoning behind those cars is "i can go faster than you for $15,000 less"

That's great, guess what, I can buy a high milage E30 for $2,000, with no rust, strip out the engine and transmission, buy an S52 with tranny for $7k, bore it and turbocharge it for $5k, install it into the E30, upgrade the E30's suspension, chassis, breaks, rims, ECU, and cosmetics, and i'll have a car that performs and looks better than 90% of modded Evo's, WRX, and STi's, and i've still payed significantly less money than them. ($20k)

Plus the fact that I'm sitting in a sick looking custom self-built old school Beamer and you're in some Japanese rice rocket that looks like it has a lifted suspension. of course thats just my opinion.

here's some nice E30 videos for all you enthusiasts to enjoy.

e30 vs. carerra GT at nurburgring.... exact setup i listed above (TT S50) in an e30 m3 chassis... should ahve costed the guy about $20k to run with a CGT. THAT's bang for the buck.

^^HerbZ,

The way you perceive things worries me. Do you think a Evo owner and STI owner or SRT-4 owner actually buys a car so that they can be "faster than you for $15000 less" ?, Am I guessing you are refereing to the $15000 less than a BMW 335I? No, that is not the case.

Your idea of: " I can buy a high milage E30 for $2,000, with no rust, strip out the engine and transmission, buy an S52 with tranny for $7k, bore it and turbocharge it for $5k, install it into the E30, upgrade the E30's suspension, chassis, breaks, rims, ECU, and cosmetics, and i'll have a car that performs and looks better than 90% of modded Evo's, WRX, and STi's, and i've still payed significantly less money than them. ($20k)"

sounds good for you but I seriously doubt anyone would like to go that route. There are many other better chasi, power plants and setups to choose.. I personally wouldn't never spent $20000 trying to make a E30 fast.

So your plan is:
E30 for $2,000
S52 with tranny for $7k
bore it and turbocharge it for $5k
install it into the E30, upgrade the E30's suspension, chassis, breaks, rims, ECU, and cosmetics (for the remaining $6000)

Wow! does that include tuning? labor? soo... for about $6000 you can get upgrade brakes, upgrade superwide tires and rims to accomodate such power, then suspension and off course cosmethics too right? perhaps a nice metalic paint right?javascript:add_smilie(":bowrofl:")

Uhmm, how about seats? and yeah one more thing, what about cvs , driveshaft and rear beefed diff? LSD right?javascript:add_smilie(":bowrofl:")

Good luck on your $20000 E30 that looks better than the Evos/STIs, outhandles the Evos/STIs, outbrakes the Evos/STIs and outperforms the Evos.javascript:add_smilie(":bowrofl:")
