Sad to hear. The girls were originally with the guys in the Mercedes, so I'm guessing they got in the BMW to check out how it runs (the article said they had just met the owner that night!), and from there the idea of "showing off" ensued perhaps, then the racing and the crash.

This was premeditated. The driver KNEW that he was being reckless by racing/showing off in the first place. At this point its no longer an accident.

This is why members get on new owners of m3's and 335's and ask what they should do to modify it because they just turned 18 and cant wait to drive it. WTF are KIDS doing with cars they dont know how to harness the power of?

I used to hang out at the local Dunkin Donuts and there were lots of cars from both sides of the sea. Imports parked here, and domestics parked there. There was some hostility but there was also freindship over the fact we all liked cars.

There was one kid who had just put a bigger turbo in his MR2 and wanted to race someone. They went out and the kid in the MR2 lost control. He also had his t-tops off, girlfriend in the car, and he wasnt wearing his seatbelt. Needless to say you know where Im going with this. He hopped a curb and ran through one of those cables that hold a telephone pole up. Somehow, he got decapitated and his head stayed in the car. His GF was not harmed at all except for the mental anguish she has for the rest of her life from the ordeal.

They painted his parking spot yellow where he always parked at the Dunkin Donuts in memory of him. This still doesnt mean by street racing, you live on in paint if you die. There are tracks ALL over the states and most are open till late at night. Dont be stupid and first learn how to drive your car before you show off how much you cant handle it.

I have read everyone's posts, and some things I agree with, some I don't. The one thing I have come to learn is my testosterone begs me to go fast, it also hates when someone wants to race and I decline, or lose the race if I accept. However, the one thing I learned from my buddy who owns an E46 M3 is that having certain cars makes you a target for others---they want to prove that there car is faster than yours. If you own a civic, no one cares about beating you, but if you own a car known to be one of the kings of the road, everyone wants to challenge you. As a result I think those of us who are lucky enough to own the M3s, M5s, M6s, and now it appears the 335is----cars that everyone reads about and know to be VERY fast---we have to take the responsibility to allow people to race off into the distance and let them race themselves. Rather walk away letting the other guy brag about you not wanting to race, rather than walking away to someone's funeral. We all know what our cars can do, and we all know racing is FUN. But we also know that the only way to avoid killing someone else for our FUN is to do it in a setting where everyone voluntarily takes on the risk: a sanctioned track. Even the best drivers make mistakes.

What a waste of a life...My condolences to there families....I would never let my kids(when I have them)drive a 60K dollar M3 like that.That car is not slow and my father wouldn't let me buy my M3 until he had the trust that I could drive it.

I can only imagine how many more deaths the New v8 M3 will cause when all these rich parents buy there 17-18 year old kids these cars.

What he was doing was not controlling the burnout. Clearly the backend started to swerve to the right and it seems that instead of letting off and/or hitting the brakes, he let off and hit the gas again. Thus leading him up the grassy hill.

Hey genius...if someone "pulls out in front of you" while you are racing on city street it *IS* your fault.

If you kill that person, you will be charged with at least Involuntary manslaughter (a.k.a. criminally negligent homicide) which occurs where there is no intention to kill or cause serious injury but death is due to recklessness or criminal negligence.

They only know you're speedin if you tell them or if you leave marks from slamming on your brakes. I know the law better than 90% of you. Thats why i get 10 tickets a year and get charged with none.
