Yep, it is really a bonehead move. Instead of the elation of their new cars, they are leaving customers feeling disappointed and cheated at delivery. Do they have any clue how this errodes customer loyaly and satisfaction?

If these parts are truly still on freeze, then I think we're dealing with some type of quality problem. They have discovered that the cable will fry your iPod or something. If that is the case, it could be months before they fix it (Germans are retarded when it comes to electronics). Of course, there are some folks in Europe that have received the cable and we haven't heard of any problems.

So, is it that the price of shipping is too high? Did they guy who knows how to put things in boxes go on vacation? I mean, what kind of half-assed excuse can there be?

The minute you include the dealership in the mix, you are guaranteed to have problems. When I picked up my car I pointed out to them that I was missing the cable - and they had no idea what I was talking about. I even had to give them the part number so they could order it.

Speak of the devil - my dealership just called. The part is backordered with no additional information.

I made this statement before - but some asshole at BMWNA needs to be fired over this! And not some scapegoat either - I mean some asswipe in a suit and tie.

yeah this whole freeze thing is messed up. the parts are available in europe right now... it said 600 in stock or something... but we can't get them in from there (my parts guy is trying anyway). Think of it this way... our dealership literally ordered 128 new cars starting march production with this option (selling this will be a piece of cake) and we have 0 cables. believe me when we say that we want the damn things ASAP. the last thing we want is to get crappy CSI because of this kind of dumb crap.

so far we know that these cables will NOT be coming in with the cars for the time being. they are to be handled just like the headphones that come with rear entertainment packages. those don't come in the car and our parts dept. supplies them. I guess they think that the morons at the port etc. will steal them.

Yes, and lodged a complaint. Won't do any good of course, but hopefully someone will read a report someday...

I used to be a purchasing agent for a manufacturing company, and I guarantee that this is only one of two issues: A quality problem with the part, in which case the vendor should be held to task; or a logistics supply chain problem (most likely), in which case some pencil pusher should be summarily dismissed and BMW should spare no expense to expedite the necessary component to customers.

What I fear, is that people who already have their vehicle and are missing this part are going to have to wait additional time while the supply is spent on newly placed orders, and dealerships stuffing their pockets with the parts.

Yes, typical BS. What does make me mad is that people who have taken delivery do not seem to be getting priority on this. This is 2007. That cable should be sent from Germany FedEx to my door so I have it tomorrow. The only reason that is not happening is because BMW does not wish it to happen.

BMW says :finger: Mr. Customer. I have your money, now go away.

save your money

save your money , if your ipod is formatted for PC (FAT) and you aren't buying on the itunes store (m4p) then you don't need the Y cable.
you ipod white usb cable will just do it .

and even if you buy on music store.. in few months most track will be sold without DRM so you can read them anyway (m4a is supported)

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38678

you can also remove the DRM yourself from your old library which in some country especially in EU is a right (with a big of google QTfairUse)
as in EU it is considered illegal to be forced to buy an ipod to read something you bought in itunes .

Does BMW have something against early adopters? They seem to always find a way to punish those customers who are the first to buy a new product.

You don't understand. We have already paid for this. It was simply not provided. It's like having the heated seats option with the buttons, but no heating elements in the seats.

LED,

I am not willing to make you even more upset, but after reading about your problem I asked my dealer what about my incoming car and ipod adapter and he said they have just delivered the first car with 6FL. It came with usb port (obviously), ipod connector and even an ipod holster (seem strange to me, which ipod model?) anyway the connecting cable is provided in Italy.

Ciao and thanks for the many useful info you share with us all.

Actually that's not quite true. The functionality is better with the adapter cable (which is more than just a Y-cable) since with it the iPod does a lot of the work like having the songs already indexed and handling shuffle.

stefano - no problem. It seems that BMWNA is the source of the problem and "most" of the problem is in the U.S. As I stated before, they could get them to us if they wanted to, they simply don't care.

I don't believe that "customer satisfaction at any cost" is a realistic expectation for any company - but in the case of so small an item, they should be FedExing them to us from Germany or where ever they have them. Take the cost out of the salary of the person who created this problem.

LED: Yes, everybody screws up any now and then. It is their attitude in fixing the problem that matters to me.
I have to dash now, but look forward to read more tips and clues from you... when I will get my car I will know how to opeate the systems as if I owned it for 6 months! I will reward you all with nice shots of the 335 convertible when it finally arrives in 4 weeks. Small mods are already been bought and are sitting at my home. The objective is: combine a sport car with an elegant car. Sport outside, elegant inside.....

I look forward to seeing those photos of the Italian countryside featuring the new 335i convertible!

I am not really concerned. I am using the AUX in for now (and I have a Griffin Airclick for a remote control). I am sure I will get the cable before too long.

I'd be pretty mad. I ordered a $400 option and i want to use it to its full functionality just like they promised when i ordered. I dont want to have to settle for JUST using the AUX port only. If i only wnated AUX, i wouldnt have ordered 6fl.

I really hope when my car comes in, i dont have to deal with this problem.

I hope everything works out for you Ledzep, keep us updated.

I have had my car for eight days and the cable came into my dealership yesterday! I live in the U.K. but purchased an American Spec car. Used it on the way home from work last night @ 1 am.

Well, I still have to upgrade my iPod too, I only have a 3rd Gen. Anybody have the part number of the cable? I haven't found it in my search.

Thanks.
