I dont see it being a problem. Many people are constantly pressure washing their engine bays with no problems. As long as the vents arent directly over some electrical wiring, you shouldnt have any corrosion issues either.

Spoke to Vorsteiner since I had the same concerns. They indicated that the vents are not located above any electrical wiring and that the car would be fine driving in the rain. They did mention though that they wouldn't drive it during a torrential downpour.

It's a non-issue really. Just exposed intakes are the ones that you really have to worry about, however there is a solution for that. It's the DryCharger wraps, we had them available for our E46 customers. Since most intakes are using K&N filters anyway - if you get the right sizing of the filter you can probably pair it up with the right Drycharger which will keep the intake working and repel water.
Let us know if you are interested in getting the hood, but dont worry about the rain that much its almost a non-issue to the engine bay, which is designed to being washed even. |

how does it look closed? i just kinda figured it might look silly having vents.. when they're "fake". Do you mind perhaps posting pics of the vents and how they look closed?

hahaha thats funny!!!! rain add hp but yeah its true that the engine bay is water proof thats why they have air boxes instead of cone filters.

What's the point of a "vented" hood with closed vents? I thought the idea was to vent heat better.

I was planning on getting a Vorsteiner hood as my last mod, but I decided to bag it recently.

What would be cool is if you could select the vent position yourself. In other words, they could be open when you are driving around (or the weather is forecasted to be nice), but you could close them when you park or the weather is expected to rain.

You can barely tell that they are closed, .
let me rephrase that. When looking at the car from the front you can not tell if you actually step around to look at the hood from the driver / passenger door area then you can see its closed. |

Vorsteiner didn't supply hydraulic struts with my hood. They told me that since the factory struts mount to the hood, there might be damage when opening/closing the hood. However, my body shop was able to fabricate a small bracket to make the struts self-contained in the hinge. Well worth the money, because the hood looks great and is functional.

It's possible to re-use the struts. However, I was advised against mounting them directly to the hood. In my case, the body shop just mounted the strut within the hinge and not the hood panel itself. I'll take some pics later today/tomorrow and post 'em for you guys.
