but heres the thing when my mechanic bypassed the vacuum canisters and solenoids the wastegate arm started opening and closing when he accelerated gas during park.. He created a new vacuum line going from the vacuum pump directly to the wastegates...
So could that mean a bad Solenoid or Clogged canister?

Clogged canister is easy enough to test. The solenoids are cheap enough, wouldn't be the end of the world if you just bought a pair of them and replaced on suspicion. If you actually drive the car with vacuum running straight to the wastegate actuators, you will end up with full boost all the time. Vacuum closes the wastegates and generates boost. This is exceedingly dangerous since the ECU has no way to shut down the boost system - you will end up with major problems.

The parts are cheap however unavailable in Egypt ! Takes 2 months to get parts thats why I want to make sure its the proper part before ordering.. I will try bypassing the canisters alone today.. if the problem continues then it could be the solenoids...

I know this is off topic but you have an M3 with an N54 engine ? or a 335 with a bunch of M3 parts ?

Looks like an extremely nice conversion for a 335 -> M3 including bodywork. I meant to compliment you on that. The small pic in your sig looks quite nice.

Your gonna ask why I did that instead of just buying an M3.. and the answer is an M3 in Egypt is 2.2 Million Pounds which is almost $380,000 this conversion cost me 600,000 LE which is $100,000

Updates: Canisters are working fine and not leaking air.. however when you unplug the vacuum hose from the solenoids the left tank has noticeably stronger vacuum that the right tank... specially on idle the left one has low continuous vacuum flow while the right one has almost none.. Is that normal?

I have the same errors: 30FE , 3100.
Been reading a lot on this and there are conflicting reports re. solenoid and 30FE - Overboost They are definitely related to 30FF - underboost Quote:
Anyone have any concrete info that 30FE overboost can be related to solenoids? |

I suffered this problem of 30fe and p3100 limp codes on my 2007 335i, they manifested themselves very shortly after I installed my catless dp's, it turned out that the vacuum pipe to turbo 2 was split under the weave covering it comes with, repiped the vacuum system from from the canisters to the rear turbo and problem went away, it wasn't an actual overboost issue but rather spikes in the boost levels when demanded by the ECU to overtake or accelerate though mid range rpms.
Good luck... |

Any updates on this? After installing rbs, n20 map, and replacing OH gasket I started getting this 3100 code underboost. I have not even driven the car over 4krpms either since it has a new clutch as well.

How did OP resolve this?
Even on my stock tune, I'm getting 30FE and 3100 almost half the time I got WOT or gently overtaking on the highway in 6th. There's gotta be a fix for this bullshit. I don't want to spend $200 on the solenoids if they're not even responsible for 30FE. |

any news??
the same here, 3 month after do the downpipes, I´m getting the 30FE and 3100 at WOT. We have check this: WG arms, were a little sticky, but we put some high temp grease. Dind´t fix the problem. Solenoids: I understand this works like an interruptor, on or off, 0% or 100% Im right? So, If I´m getting overboost, is because both are working. With the car off, we saw the WG open inside the turbos, when starts the car, both WG arms move along, so I suppose are ok. Any way, I took out the solenoid, blow through them, seems to be ok. Vacuum Lines: as we have Overboost, lines are off the table here I think... vacuum lines problem will produce underboost I think. I have Cobb system, and as you can iagine, the actual boost are higher than req. boost. But other strange thing I saw, the Air Charge Temp (ACT) on the log is -53°F, never change.... As I know, the ACT is a data that use the ECU to calculate something in the car. I can see that in the map configuration. So, any solve to this problem? someone check the ACT? Thanks! |
