Nope, identical engine, just a different engine management system. It's a car company they want to save money and change as little as possible!

All you need to do to get the same power output as the 325i is to have the 325i's engine management software installed. If you know your tech well enough they may do it for you, also if you hunt around the more reputable tuners they also maybe able to help you out.

I was going to get the 325i but 04/07 build (which mine is) is the first to have 140KW just like coupe.
I always thought it was just a software issue. I wonder if any1 has done it though.

Greetings,we purchased an E90 323i in October last year with a sunroof & 18" rims. We tested it against the 325 and could hardly tell any difference in the power, well not enough to warrant the extra money they wanted for it. We absolutely love the car. Don't get me wrong, I would love a 335i coupe too, but where do you draw the line? So for our budget the car is awesome, with just enough get up and go to be fun to drive.

Arclight, any updates with regards to your recent test drive?

Never had a chance to go for a test drive as I have to do work overseas. Just arrived in Sydney last night. Hopefully, I'll have time this weekend.

Don't forget to consider a near new 335i. I know someone with a lovely Space Grey model.

Cheers.

Here in Canada for 07, you have a choice of 323i or 328i sedans. 325 were taken out for this year.... But between the two there are alot more differences in standard options such as Xenons, adaptive headlights, angel eyes and power. The ride on a 323 is not to bad, but first gear lags in normal drive with auto.

Nobody cares what you say about Canada!
What they offer here is always different.
Peresently in the coupes we are being offered the 323i, 325i and 335i, and the same with sedan, Australia offers different models to Canada, and most of the world, as per BMW AG's desired target audience, which varies from market to market.

Went to BMW Artarmon last Saturday and was able to test drive both 323 and 325. Although you can feel that the 325 is the more powerful performer, the 323 has more than enough grunt for driving around the city. It feels plenty fast enough when accelerating. Comparing the two, I think that the higher premium of the 325 does not justify the power difference. As one poster said, it's either you go 323 or jump to 335 -- he is right.

I am now decidedly going for an E92 323. My next phase is to shop around for the best price.

I did look for him but he was busy with another customer. My intention really was just to test drive and get an idea of the price. I actually told them that I am just evaluating and they were really helpful. There was no sales pressure tactic applied (+1 for BMW Artarmon). I will definitely look for him when I go back and do the price negotiations.

Good to hear they still maintain that level of service (they weren't like that 2yrs ago).

Good luck

Hey Arclight,

Michael is quite good to deal with. Whenever I went there for a test drive, he'd throw me the keys to try all the various E92's (323,325,335+ convertible)
No pressure and no dealer with you on the 40 min. test drive until........someone there crashed a very expensive 335 and ruined it for everybody ouch....
Can't imagine handing over the $3000 insurance excess. Poor him

Guys,
Just registered on this site - great job in keeping the Aust section going.

I heard somewhere the new model 323i has had a power increase. I guess the makes the decision harder between the 323 and 325. I will be in the market shortly so keen to hear from anyone who has had a test drive

I'd expect the power increase in the 323i will be made when the 325i is dropped and replaced in the Aus market with the 328i, still no confirmation as to when this will happen.
