I've got one and I'm not sure about one of those points carl.....

Doesn't the 330i have twin exhausts albeit next to eachother?

I think in the Land of Carl, having them apart is probably better. My 325i also has twin tailpipes (same setup as 330i).

I think all 6 cylinder engines across the entire BMW range have 2 tailpipes?

I like the wheelbarrow look yes.... and it doubles as a wheelbarrow for you to cart your 30,000 pound coins a year home in

Can I nominate this as the "post of the day"? Classic.

It is a big problem

I think the issue for me is that I have never been in a position to change cars when I want to. I've always had company cars, which have been nice, but once you swap you kind of have to see the lease through - or get a new job.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I have actually started looking for a new job in the past because I've been bored with my car.

335d has to be on the list - mainly because of the residuals. This is reflected in the GMFV's being quoted by other forum members and it's making the 335d an even more 'sensible' option.

You are right though .. I'd rather have the 'i'

This is the problem in a nutshell.

This is a good call I think.

I guess my problem is this:

1. I love cars and would ideally want at least 10 of them.

2. I get a really decent car allowance - within which the 330i is financially quite a sensible option. I'm torn between the desire to have a serious performance car and an urge to somehow be sensible and 'share' that benefit with my family.

3. I would love a 2 seater track car, but it is even more of a daft luxury than my 330i. At least I can argue that my 330i is for work - not just for fun.

It wouldn't be a downgrade, but I would personally find it less involving to drive.

I think you are right. Financially, I think it would be better to be putting the miles on a cheaper car, but then I would hate driving a cheaper car.

Thanks for the advice guys ... I'm starting to think I need a little second car. How do I buy one without my wife noticing though?

You serious? Look at the back of an E90 335d M Sport (not sure about E92) and you could be forgiven for thinking it looked like a wheelbarrow with the two handles.... that's how I have seen it in my abstract world. And the coins are your humungous salary you get paid for sitting around surfing the net all day :-p Only kidding about the last bit as that is unfair.

You might earn what I earn one day, but since you don't know what I earn (and I am not saying) then you won't know that you are earning what I am earning (or when)

Money isn't that important in the end - and a salary which is (say) triple yours isn't THAT great because the taxman dips in and nicks 40% of it.

PS - just checked and my 330i definitely has 2 exhausts

I think, for you, it would. Unless "a change is as good as a rest". You want something involving and fun and the 335d, to paraphrase Peppernick is the ultimate compromise car. It's not a real sports car, it isn't the smoothest executive car, but it is probably just about the best all rounder you can buy for the money..... but it doesn't sound like that's what you want as you've already 'compromised' in getting a 4 door 330i.

My uncle had the right approach. The tax man came to his house and questioned his tax return because he claimed to be working part time on a very low wage.

He locked the tax man in the garage until he apologised.

Agreed, and I'd like to nominate Carl as poster of the week - this thread wouldn't have come alive without his input.
