I watch it because it gets recorded automatically and i don't have to watch commercials. That and i'm tired of watching UK reruns.

As i said you will not see the US version do a real review of the any car, the US car companies will not allow it to happen. Remember Tanner Foust is sponsored by a car company he not going to allow his pay check be affected but saying something bad about a car.

Hell even when they attempt to rip on a car from the past they do it in a nice way.

Really? Well then you have a valid point in my opinion. If he's sponsored by a car company, it would hardly make him objective when doing a review based on one of their makes/models.

As a related aside, is it Ford who sponsors him?

There is no question the hosts don't want to offend the Big 3 but I don't find the program too bad. Top Gear UK it is not, but then again, what is? I watch Top Gear for entertainment and do not compare it to its UK big bro.

Sure beats 99.999999% of the "reality" crap on TV.

exactly.

Everything they do seems so forced out of their mouths at gun point. even their action seem 100% scripted all the time and they just suck so bad at acting it shows.

I've also tried a few times to watch the shows and I get disgusted after like 5 minutes and turn it off.

Disney could program a few automatons from its a small world to do a better job.

It's got nothing to do with British humor. The USA version just has horrible people and bad chemistry. Plus, I agree with you guys; they never review a car in depth. WTF?

The Top Gear UK crew acts like a bunch of clowns. But they come across as very smart clowns and I often respect their opinion. They know how to balance seriousness with tomfoolery.

yeah here is his sponsors

Rockstar Energy Drink / www.rockstar69.com
Etnies / www.etnies.com
Ford Racing / www.fordracing.com
Motegi / www.motegiracing.com

I am pretty sure his sponsorship contract has lots of nasty legal language around always portraying their products in the best light. So Tanner can never say anything bad about a ford car, even if we all believe it is crap.

Grant it the UK groups goes over the top sometime ripping on a car and the manufacturers, but that is what makes it entertaining and funny.

If somebody never saw Top Gear on BBC, they would think the US one was pretty cool (like some of my coworkers).

That being said, I think Top Gear US is pretty lame. At least hire 3 decent drivers.....thank God Wood or Jersey boy didn't win the last challenge to drive the Z06. lol

Yes, this is exactly the problem. The bits that I've scene of it seemed so forced and thrown together. "Here let's copy what they've already done and try to do it again with people who have no chemistry, no wit, very scripted interactions, and have little if any passion."

Now I think it's absurd to think that Top Gear UK is not scripted, but it allows much more improvisation for the presenters who have genuine chemistry, genuine conflicts, and genuine passion.

TGUS sucks. I like Tanner's other show about Supercars because he's always getting his ass handed to him in the challenges
TGUK is great I could watch it all day

Jesus christ!!! If you hate it that much then don't freaking watch it!!!!!!

How many channels do you have?????

I don't like it compared to the UK Version either, but I've seen all the UK episodes 3 times and it's better than most of the other garbage on tv these days.

Uk version is all I watch. Ive tried to watch the American version a few times, and I can not stomach those 3. Captain Slow, Hamster, and the Oaf for me any day of the week. In fact I wish I could watch it every day of the week.

Last nights episode was kind of funny. Small eco cars driving through the bayou. Again, I wish they would throw a car review in there once in a while. I think it would be great to see Tanner hoon a BMW M5 in the desert. Maybe it's a budget issue?

Right. There are however many mentions of it as being "unscripted". I've even read and heard it titled as the best unscripted or the best factual programme -- neither of which it qualifies for.

I have heard a lot of people here claim it's gotten better over the years as far as chemistry is concerned.... But TGUK has gotten so obviously and overtly contrived.... I think it was much better many years ago, even though it might have been a bit more awkward at times as far as the chemistry goes....
