Might add, right now the:
M3 is better on the track N54 is better on the street N54 is better at the drag strip N54 is better at the airport That being said I really like the M3 & most likely will buy the M4 turbo coupe when its released because it will solve the major torque & ease of tuning issues of the current version.

M3 DCT are not slow, at all. a few mods and they will hang or beat most n54 cars. F/I and its a true beast.
that being said the lack of TQ is not all that pleasing on daily driving but the car is deceptive in its speed. I prefer TQ....thus the turbo on my M3

m3
On the other forum .......... there was supercharged M3 get beat by a stock Camaro now that's pretty sad. Before i was FBO i would beat Camaros no problem. So what gives??? probably why the OP is pissed is b/c some M3 owners are pretty snobish just cause they have the car.

You're right, all of the engineers knew that someone would build a 650whp+ single turbo upgrade for the N54...

to be fair, that has already happened on just about every single straight six they have designed in the past 30 years. Chances are they knew it would happen with this one as well.

Those are open the engine mods....what would you define as "heavy"?

Its always as compared to what? This is a BMW site, excluding pure race cars, the land of the bolt-ons without ever opening anything up. Only one I have seen posting any additional work beyond a bolt-on is Dzenno who had the head rebuilt to a higher spec.
Most make a big thing about how they have never touched the internals like Shiv's high mileage ST.

From someone who's had a little experience with f-bodies, the type of "heavily modified" car your speaking of its typically found in bracket racing with cars running anywhere from 600whp (heads and cam on forged internals) to over 1000whp (same as mentioned a add a supercharger of your choice)... that being said, a camaro with heads and cam plus tune, 1 7/8 headers and an air lid with a k&n can easily squeeze out 500+ whp now let's talk rear ends and gear ratios... catch my drift yet?

WHAT !! -Just kidding.
Not mad, just didn't appreciate the road manners. And it seems to happen more than not when I come to meet M3s on the road. I guess it's something about my blk e92 w/ staggered 19s that makes them curious. Most of the time I don't even bother as I like BMWs and never enjoy the road play against a fellow bimmerhead, I would rather wave and acknowledge a brethren hobbyist and be on my way. I tend to save my ass kicking mode for Audi owners, Mustangs, Asian stuff, etc. |

I love my N54 for daily driving. I love it even more for its mod ability and fuel economy. But for track it is S65 hands down over N54 stock to stock or even modified vs modified.
Also, I am not so sure if the lack of torque in M3 really is a huge difference when comparing stock to stock. Because the superiority of 7-speed DCT and its shift speed and ability to keep M3 on full boil will allow it to dust off a N54 335i like nothing. Also, for the OP you probably encountered the M3 when it was not in the correct shift mode and gear. Other wise you would not have gotten a jump on it. Also, if it was as heavily modified as your car the race would be over before it even started.
