Anyways, each to their own I suppose, I've made full use of it and would not own a car without one...

I wonder what their likely faults are and what the costs are? My 335i is £380 and the big one we all fear is the turbochargers. I had mine done under manufacturers warranty. I'm sure the bill is around £3000-3500. I would recommend everyone to take out a warranty to avoid the potential of that size of bill. I doubt many 335is will manage 9 years on stock turbos so there is a certain level of risk worth covering. The OP here was quoted over £1000 for a 330d. Someone says the DPF isn't covered, I'm sure that's about £2000, so one of the biggest worries is always a worry. I guess you have to weigh up all the potential bills and costs and see if it is worth the risk. I wouldn't pay over £1000 for a 335i or any of the other 3 series cars. I've not claimed in my 2.5 years meaning I'd almost have enough money saved to cover the bigger bills. |

I've got about 10 months left on my original warranty, so starting to look at the options a little more... Unfortunately the BMW Warranty website won't quote me as I already have a warranty, which is helpful!
Just a quick question for those who extended - was it cheaper to pay fully (presume for a year) upfront, or spread the cost monthly? (is there even a choice?) If it's looking like big numbers, I'd rather start saving now if I have to! Thanks |

Well mine is a March 2010 DCT M3 E92 with 16,000 miles,
full service history. Just had its first MOT done recently It's over a £1000. The same with my previous 2007 Manual E92 M3 at 54,000 miles. Removing the emergency service and the lowest protection is still £700 per year. That's the thing. Over a grand a year. The past four years would have cost me like £4000? The common (if you can call it that) is the actuators, but parts/labour around £800. So.... might as well pay for myself. The only thing that really f***s me up would be the DCT or the engine. But fingers crossed - the M seems quite damn solid.

The Annual also appears to be transferable to next owner so if you were planning to sell in 6 months would be a good sales point that the car had 6 months BMW Warranty. So it may not all be about price but how long you plan to keep the car. |

I guess whichever way you look at it, its all about risk. If you can afford the big bills [or modify] its not a problem. If you cant, then a warranty is a must.

£449 comprehensive including breakdown for 335i. Last year was 446. That's 100 excess, no sense going more as the premium only reduces by the additional excess so one claim and you're equal. I found a reason for a small claim each year so far so breaking even or better I think.
Why is diesel so much more? Last edited by crypticc; 01-03-2014 at 07:57 PM.. |

If a 3 grand bill makes you say "bollocks" then you maybe don't need a warranty but if it means you have to scrap your summer holiday, it's different. It's worth remembering that Mondial are actually insuring your summer holiday as the car will get fixed anyway. |

Once a car hits 60k the BMW warranty price pretty much doubles, at least for a new policy. If you are on the monthly continuous you may get away with a cheaper price for a few years.

I just got a quote from BWM online. 2007 335i SE with 63k:
Comp was £1154.37 (without emergency service) £0 excess Driveline £647.56 (without emergency service) £0 excess Am i right in saying that i'd be much better off going for Driveline at half the price, considering it covers pretty much all main mechanical components apart from 'brake and clutch facings'? Anyone had any experience with driveline cover? |

I had an offer for warrranty from a company that is affiliated with carloans4u, here's what they offered me which sounded too good to be true. Still researching what the catch is:
Company name: JDC Concepts LTD Product Description................One Off Payment................12 Monthly Payments..........................Total Cost 24 mth Platinum MBI.....................£449...................... ................£40.99............................ .............£491.88 36 mth Platinum MBI.....................£599...................... ................£53.99............................ .............£647.88 . Unlimited number of claims can be made up to the purchase price of the vehicle up to £5,000 per claim! · The policy covers the vehicle in member countries of European Economic Area for up to 60 days per year. · There is No Excess to pay in the event of a valid claim being made. · Unlimited Mileage allowance after purchase of the policy. · If the repair time of your vehicle exceeds 8 hours, you may claim up to 7 Days Car Hire at £50 per day! I can provide you with a full break down on whats covered if you're interested.

They won't pay out, that is why they are so cheap. They often only repair root cause too, so if other things go because of X you'll be left with the bill for all the extras that blew because of a faulty part.
