With the help of a buddy, install only took about 3.5 hours to complete. Zero issues with fitment. I'd highly recommend this kit as a cheaper alternative to ACT or Spec kits especially if you will not be upgrading the turbo. In case anyone is wondering, this is the OEM 335IS clutch kit from ECS Tuning

Overall, it feels like the stock clutch with a slightly earlier engagement and slightly stiffer pedal, which are good things IMO.

Damn dude...3.5 hrs?! You must have been flying through it. Even now that I have done it once I don't think I could hit 3.5hrs and I have my own lift.

I guess it helps that he's a BMW tech that owns a lift and air tools :P

Well the BMW tech is the biggest advantage haha. I have the tools aspect just never done such a large project on an import so I dillydallied. Props for the time and having good friends!

hey i was woundering did u end up getting a new flywheel? or was yours fine? and how do you know if your flywheel needs changing?

Ended up using original flywheel. We gave it a quick polish with a dremel and it was good to go. From what I've read, you can reuse the stock flywheel once unless you have major burn/score marks.

500 miles later, I threw in some E85 on map 5 and she's putting the power down beautifully

alright gotcha, well I just recieved mine in the mail today, planning to do it this coming weekend hopefully. Also did you use the clutch alignment tool? and anything I should look out for? any special tools that need to be used? I watched a diy on a 135i but iam still not to confidant. thanks in advance

Has anyone tried the clutch masters for the N55? I have 25k on my 335i and map 7 has toasted my clutch... that and launching at the track 3773638 times lol

Used the clutch alignment tool. Don't forget to wedge a piece of wood under the oil pan and sway bar as shown in the DIY videos. We ended up stripping a few of the stubborn bolts but the kit comes with 6 new ones anyhow. Other than that, install was a pretty straight forward process. Just make sure you have someone to help you with removing/re-attaching the transmission.

My buddy brought 1 from the dealership he works at. They seem pretty easy to find online and don't seem too pricey.

for the update. finally finished installing the 335is clutch today. seems to be pretty good. except I noticed that its not stiffer at all. and maybe even 20% lighter. iam not sure if it just seems that way but it is. can't really complain i like it but not sure if after i break in the clutch it will get stiffer. when u finished installing you noticed a right away stiffness on your first test drive? and what does your buddy suggest for a break in period how much miles, since he's a BMW tech?

Mine was stiffer than stock by a very small margin. However, I bled the clutch after popping out the innards of the CDV so that could explain things. Also noticed you are several model years older and have the n54, so it may not be an apples-to-apples comparison.

I've read about 500 mile "break-in" periods, but he told me to just drive it like I normally would. I just avoided any hooning for the first 100 miles or so.

Sedans are not listed on official BMW parts compatibility listings; well, save for the 550i.

I would verify with the vendor prior to purchase.

Just an update, I've clocked about 2k miles on the clutch and have zero issues to report.

I just spoke with Adam (sales) of ESC Tuning. He confirmed compatibility. And, he def. sounded like he knew his stuff. He said the 335is kit is purchased frequently as a 335i clutch upgrade.

My car is a 2007 335i E90 that I bought new in August 2007 (original owner). It has just over 91k miles. I just had this clutch installed by a good indi shop yesterday. I purchased the clutch kit and some extra small parts and flywheel bolts just in case, from my local BMW dealer parts department. They gave me a 20% off discount and with sales tax the total was $477. I paid $600 labor for the installation. The flywheel would have been covered under my 3rd party warranty, but after the inspection, the BMW trained and certified tech said it was in perfect condition, so I kept the original one.
The clutch feels so much better now. My old one had very sloppy and jumpy engagement when starting from a stop and was slipping in gears 3-6 under high boost (up to about 17 psi). It wouldn't noticeably slip in normal boost situations, but I knew it was going out.
The clutch feels smooth and great, but I'm going to let it break in for about a month before I turn up the power again and start using E85 gas mixes again. I would say the clutch is barely stiffer than it was when brand new, but not enough to complain about. I think it engages with the pedal slightly lower than before, which is good for me. It engages just as it comes up from the clutch stop I installed, but nice and smooth like when I first bought it.
This is the part number for the 335is and 550i and 650i (newer twin turbo V8's) with manual transmission.

Any update on the clutch holding up with fbo and e85?? Hesitant on installing due to it not being able to hold fbo

I haven't used E85 or boosted more than about 14 psi with it yet, since the new clutch installation. I've had plenty of hard runs lately in all gears though, and haven't felt any slipping at all. I'll probably up the boost on a higher map and use an E85 mix soon. So far so good. It does feel nice and stock like and has smooth engagements like new.

If anything, seeing that it can hold up power from the N63, I'm sure it should have zero issues putting N54/N55 power down.
