PW, I hope when you get your Quaife you take some pictures of it with you at a nice beach or something. It sounds like you are lovesick. I know when I got my LSD for my CV, that I had plenty of smiles hauling the rear of my 4000 lb. brick out when going around corners. Just didn't seem natural, but it sure was fantastic to experience.

I agree, some people just want different things. In general, some of my friends wonder why I would even modify my BMW. A lot of people expect the car to be 'complete' and without need to adjust. I on the other hand can't seem to leave well enough alone. Probably why I'm broke all of the time.

usually its; about 50 bucks for 4 day shipping...how much does the diff wiegh?

another thing i went to my dealer o pick up my 540...i talked to them about the quaife. they said there will be some warranty issues...they said i don't remember the type of boot cover or something...but nothing like suspension, engine bay, electronics, interior nothing like that....more like axle, drive shaft, and again some boot cover...he said case scenario if a regional tech has to come out for some reason and something is wrong with a component related to it he would void it...and then i would have to come in and talk to the tech and convince him undoubtedly that my component wasn't the reason..hate to post the sour news but it was kind of already known and there is about a 99.999 % chance that won't happen anyways so i am still in!!! also good thing the quaife has a lifetime warranty so no issues there and no q's asked even when tracked constantly

Via email,Kevin informed me everything is on the up-and-up, meaning the "repair" fee would be £1207.69 => so US folks would likely need to pay duty on that.

also of note: "Shipping on the basis that the dimensions are 40x30x30cm and 40kg costs £172.85 with our carriers."

So shipping is a little lower than my last estimate. At any rate, just some more information for everyone!

Oh man a pre-installed unit would be awesome, It's still the same install process though the local shop just doesn't have any part in taking the actual differential apart yea? to bad I would be a bit uncomfortable with someone else's differential.

The install process is much easier and also cheaper, as U get the whole pumpkin, as far as I see it U don't need to disassemble it for mounting, but pls correct me guys if I'm wrong.

U can send your diff to UK for conversion. Downside = car undriveable for a week or two. But anything makes U feel confortable, man.

Yea but they still have to pull all sorts of stuff off to get the differential off. Not exactly sure what it means though i have an idea "dropping the subframe". I know I would feel a whole lot more comfortable with them installing it then a local shop who may or may not do it right though.

Well, they have to pull all sorts of stuff off to get e.g. rear sway bars installed. Also involves dropping the subframe. Some guys even prefer to make the two (sway + diff change) done together for this reason. Anyway I'm sure that's the easier part of the job. Disassembling the pumpkin and putting it together with an LSD in it is much trickier.

I know I would feel a whole lot more comfortable with them installing it then a local shop who may or may not do it right though.

Find a shop who knows what to do. I would not spare money, time or miles on this.

i got a qoute of $554 from my dealer for removal and install of the new diff....expensive but worth it!!!! i am still waiting to see if they will give me a loaner....i don't wanna pay that twice...if they won't then i will just wait a couple months till work calms down cause i am moving to michigan in a week...i have another car but i don't wanna dump a bunch of miles on it....i'll keep you posted!!!!!

Just like to mention that the Quaife ATB LSD in the 335i kicks ass. The car is a totally different beast now compared to stock. I can also highly recommend Bird's Auto.

Well, back from a longer weekend out of the city. Wonderfull days I had. Both of my Saabs broke down!

My first one started to drink too much water, head gasket failure (12 months after it got replaced ) so I decided to take the another one for a drive. 1000km roundtrip across the country to visit my family. On the way back the engine fried 100miles from home. What a weekend. Now WTF - should I just buy another car until I get my bimmer?

the dealer has experience and i am trying to get a loaner...why would i pay twice for labor getting the replacement unit while they work on mine for 10-13 days total including shipping...if not i am looking at another shop and i will just put miles on my one of the other cars but i would prefer a loaner....it's about a 4 hour removal and a 3 hour install give or take....my dealer has a lot of experience installing diffs and such...but with my move and all now i might have to hold off...i am just moving a couple hours away on the other side of lake michigan in st joseph michigan!!!! it could be max a 3-3 and 1/2 hour drive...working almost everyday it would be tough until i move back to chicago around march 15 but then i go to europe for 2 weeks so it would have to be after that....man i want an lsd sooo bad by the end of this week i should know for sure though!!!!!

U probably have the welded one. I think Kevin could tell U. Send him an e-mail, introduce yourself, VIN etc. and ask your questions.

Congrats, guys. I envy. Actually the LSD is gonna be my first mod when I get my car. Then a few driving school/track days to be able to handle it
