I love it ! I use 'D' mode with my winter tires (or cruising on hwy). 'DS' and 'manual/ paddles' with my summer tires. No issues from my end. Shifts are great and love the rev matching in manual w/paddles. I do admit I did not like 'D' mode when I had it installed but as others have said it must have adapted a bit to my driving habits. Running with GIAC Stage II.

FYI...here is a post for your reference:

I personally love the Alpina flash and I don't plan on going back to stock any time soon. I am getting 25 mpg in D mode with a tune.

Find someone locally (regional forum) that does coding or you can contact Alpine (http://www.alpinemss.com/category_s/1.htm). They can do it remotely (as well as others). All you need is a cable, wi-fi, and computer. GL!

Alex (alpinemss.com) did my coding and my Alpina flash remotely. Took very little time and effort; I recommend him unreservedly (but go ahead and get your car coded with the good options while you are at it).

After a couple weeks I had Alex remove the Alpina flash from my car. I found regular 'D' mode to be infuriatingly lazy and I didn't notice it adapting to my driving style. DS mode was super aggressive, so the only options are too lazy or too aggressive.

I have a JB4 and the stock DS mode is perfect for my car. Your mileage may vary...

(I did love the Alpina flash showing what gear you are in on the cluster - wish somebody could code my car to do that with the stock transmission calibration.)

Agreed. With the Cobb tune, the D mode with the Alpina flash is fantastic 99% of the time. The only time it's a bit annoying is when you need to drop a couple of gears and don't feel like switching to M mode...the transmission gets "confused" for a bit on what gear it should be in which makes the whole experience not exactly a smooth/natural transition.

Pretty sure Alpina D mode is an artifact of EU emissions certification for a modified car. Like skip shift on some manual corvettes here in the US to get around CAFE req.

I love the Aplina flash in mine. Its better in every way and shifts so much firmer when you are driving aggressively. I think the Sport pack cars should have come this way from the factory.

I drive alpina in D mostly, SPORT is a bit too aggressive for regular driving IMO, sure is fun when you want to run it hard though.

How would you know if you have this Alpina update? I'm the 2nd owner of my 07 335 and I love it! My car displays what the currently selected gear is in DS mode...it rev matches....and it shifts quick as hell. I have no ODBII to USB so I can't log or anything. Is there any other defining factor to separate a stock trans from an Alpina flashed trans?

Really...

There are countless threads all over the Internet, not only this forum on how to do this with what's guides, cables, and downloads u need.

Google is a search engine at your finger tips, use the letters on your keyboard to type what u want to search. Also people already mentioned other means to have somebody else install it in this very thread. Crazy I know...

Edit... I needed a snickers. Contact Wedge he can help.

If anyone needs help, just let me know. You can order the K+DCAN cable from eBay for @ $30... I can also send you the links to the files you'll need. Just email WedgePerformance at Gmail. The DIY's are not that good and most of the software you download online is incomplete... So don't be afraid to ask for help... For the most part, my install is completely automated. Also, for those who didn't know... I was the first one in North America to flash my car... I honestly had no clue this would become viral through the AT community when I released this information to the forums.

Never had a problem with this. I'm out of warranty now anyway.

Flashed mine with WinKFP and love it. D mode can be a bit dull sometimes, but personally think it's perfect if you are driving on roads with heavy traffic. Take the point about the slow downshifts while in D, but if I need to change gear quickly I either click the paddles a few times or move it over to sport.

Both DS and Manual sport are great fun, shifts are super fast and the rev-matching is an added bonus! I have not had any inconsistency with the flash at all so will be keeping it on the car unless this changes.

If I need to go to the dealers I will just re-flash the stock file, I am sure I read that you can turn off the "number of flashes left" on the module so that in theory you could change files as many times as you need.

Being an engineer and a parent I hate being told "just because". If it is a version difference in the TCM can that not be resolved?

Sure I remember reading that post 03/07 cars had a different part number for gearbox, I think the newer part has a re-designed valve body, and that's the reason the flash doesn't work IIRC.

Some where talking about retrofitting the new valve body, but seems like it might just be more cost effective to replace the tranny.

I have it on my 08 335i e90 and never want go back. Besides showing what gear your in on either mode you get mph digitally and a host of other dash features. Shifts are crispy clean and in sport mode driving normally shifts are given around 2800 rpm. In drive mode shift points are lower but shifts quick like a speed bike. Also in sport mode if you gun it, it stays in gear up 7k and will stay in high rpm until it feels your not racing around anymore. Basically it becomes a smart transmission. The Alpina flash with my JB+ is magic.

I've had it for a year and I'm in D mode 90% of the time.

Results are 24-25 mpg city driving and 30+ on the highway,
