For sure! It felt great to be back in the saddle! I think I'll start the spring clean process this week too. I ran it thru a few machine washes over the winter (which I hate), so looking forward to getting back to hand washing. Hopefully this mild weather will stay with us for a while longer

You got your summer tires back on yet? Or are you still planning on some new wheels?

Hey, I did talk to MW initially, but I ended up getting everything from Tischer. Their pricing can't be beaten. Are you planning on getting the entire kit, or just the front? I got the rocker panels and rear bumper last summer and only got the front bumper a few weeks go - I think if you get the complete kit all at once there is a discount (at least for the E92).

I'm still planning on getting a set of new wheels. I have my old summer set ups (CSL Reps) in my garage. 3 of the wheels are slightly bent on the inner rim, but the tires still holds air. One of my friends is thinking about buying those wheels so I'm just holding of till then. Just in case he backs out, I don't want to fill my garage with 2 sets of wheels/tires. Not to mention they take a lot of space.

Well guys no M-Sport bumper for me =(. I dropped my car off today at Roger across from MW. I asked about switching to the M-Sport and was told it could be done but would cost about $1,200-1,500. The bumper itself was only $250 more so I was for sure going to do it. Then I was told I would need to brackets, duct work, etc... and it seem that none of that cost would be covered under my insurance if I went that route so back to stock I go.

They should be as I write this. I'll know the extent of the damage later today and keep you posted.

For fun anyone want to throw out some estimates as how much the repairs are going to be?

No clue on the tires - I went through almost half the tires in 9K miles but I've never had tires last long on anything except my truck which has no power and really isn't capable of being hard on tires.

Nick
Hi Nick we have done quite a few N54 cars we just had two E92 335 in the shop this week. Done a few of the turbocharger waste gates for rattling. We have done a few HPFP for the n54 that were not covered by the 120k warranty due to collision damage. There are shops out there working on them you just have to check around. BTW we do have the fiber optic programing equipment to do Ipod retorfits and things like that.

BTW I have cracked BMW's programing and can do windows up with the remote via simple programing.

I would highly recommend Rogers Master Collision across the street from Motorwerks. They are BMW certified and know these cars inside and out, and like Nick said, they do all of MW's repairs.

The M-Sport bumper would be the only way to go for me! I wouldn't be a fan of the aftermarket bumpers as the fit never seems to be up to OEM specs from the pics I've seen. The cost shouldn't be too much more than the standard bumper either, especially if you source it from Tischer.

Sorry to hear about this again Doug, does this lady have insurance at least?
BST is on the postive cable that will blow and cause a no start. There is also the SGM(safty Gateway Module or active crash module) which will cut out the fuel pump via the bus.

Interesting that the HPFP wasn't covered because of collision though; BMWNA said that? I'd be curious to know how you came across that information.

What did you do to mitigate the WG rattle? It sounds like it's the bushing in the actual turbo housing just gets worn causing the actuator rod to get sloppy and rattle on decel or cold starts. Apparently the newer castings have a slightly larger rod and bushing?

What's it take to install a factory alarm? Can you code the computer to recognize the alarm so it works? It sounds like it was a dealer thing that they charge an hour or two to "fix" once you install the hardware.

Nick
The car with the HPFP was a Salvage car so no warranty. Sucky!!!!

WG rattle can be helped via DME software(lag a little though) there is a rod adjustment that helps. The best thing is to have them make noise before warranty runS out thE newer turbos are better HINT HINT.... Replacing the turbos after warranty, Makes the E65 coolant tube leak look like chump change!!!!

Yes after you install the hardware I do have all the BMW equipment need to set the alarm to work correctly. We can also do all the car-key memory options not adjustable through the I-drive. We can also install Dension accessory like the Mono-Bridge(wifi downloads songs from your computer at home!)

If the inter cooler is damage make sure they check the TURBOS stuff can get in the turbos from the inter cooler being open.

Shiv (Procede tuner guy) can get most of the rattle tuned out as well (earlier revisions of the V4 tune helped WG rattle a ton) but it's more of a bandaid unfortunatally As you said, the best way is to get them fixed is replaced under warranty.

There is an interesting turbo update in the turbo section where a guy is running a clipped compressor wheel in the stock housing (with some other tweeks on the wheel) that is seeing some good results - they decided to run the newer factory housings with the upgraded rod and bushing assembly. There is also a guy (Rob Beck) that is doing a major overhaul on the wastegate bushing's as well as the compressor wheels in the stock housings but his project has been going on for almost a year now - who knows what the results will be.

Pretty cool on the the other things as well. What other things can you adjust that are not user adj. in iDrive? Honestly, turning of the DRL's and enabling the triple turn sig. were the two biggest things I needed. I have iDrive and iPod - the biggest thing I'm trying to get sorted at the dealer is my comfort access is being a pain in the ass. I'm on key's 4 and 5 right now trying to make it work as designed... I'm ready to give up though; too much back and fourth with the dealer.

Nick
DRL we can do as well as the turns. The comfort access system is a PIA lots of antennas and other things to try to figure out. The JBE can cause some issues for the comfort control as well as the cas. The HPFP was 2100 labor was not to bad 3 hours or so

Well worth the $ in my opinion. I took mine off after the accident and while I wasnt driving the car hard I could tell some of the power wasn't there. Also for what its worth its not hard to uninstall so im assuming the install would go just as smoothly.

As another incentive to try the Procede out im pretty sure there are still going to be new maps coming out sometime soon for V3

I don't know - glad you got your car in to get fixed though. Did they tear it down yet?

Nick
Wow, it's been busy on here today...

Anyway, the air intakes for the oil cooler and brake ducts are in a different location on the M-Sport bumper, so new ducts are needed. I also needed a new undertray, fender liners, and misc other brackets. It's definitely not a simple as it would seem...

That's a lot more that I would have guessed, but when I think about it, it's not too surprising given all that you need to replace and OEM pricing. Sucks about the M-Sport bumper, but at least you'll have a nice clean front end now! You drilling the new bumper for a plate?

Oktoberfest

Is anybody planning on heading over to Road America in August for Oktoberfest? I'm pretty sure I'm going to check it out as it's so close. Would be fun to get a group together and caravan over for the weekend

I hear ya man, I'll get mine drilled soon too. I just wanted to give the paint a few weeks to cure before attaching the bracket over top of it!
