lol yea pretty much. I've done it twice only cause microsoft was being an ass. So i bought a new, swapped the boards but kept the old casing, and returned it.

but are all the drives compatable with the boards? i have a modded drive, can i put it onto a new board that was meant for a different brand drive?

he cant do that since its modded. he would have to remod the new one and thats if you can. certain ones, like the hitachi dvd drives are unmoddable.

That i honestly dont know, i've always had to swap the drive with the new board and keep all the new parts together. But for a modded one im not sure if it matters

i had it laying on its side, i didnt know it mattered, it was definitely well ventilated, it was on my kids dresser with nothing around it but a remote lol. i did the bolt mod, but it still wont turn on, its giving the over heating code

i'm still unable to mod my drives , so much sense of fail from all the attempts. I can only swap parts but thats it

sounds stupid, but i heard if you wrap it in a towel and leave it on for 10 mintues, let it get real hot then try it out. Its supposed to expand the capacitors or something

hmmm did you re-apply different CPU compound too? thats a biggy. also yes it gets better ventilation when its up and down. dont know why but it does.

i just gotta heat the board with a heat gun and play with the tightness of the bolts i installed, i heard the towel trick over heats sections of the board that you dont want heat to get to, thats why you use a heat gun and cover certain sections of the board
