Good luck, clean 996 Turbos are appreciating. I was in the market for one before I bought the E46. If you want a clean, no BS manual coupe, it will run you around $50k.

Pretty much what I've come to realize, which isn't too far off base. Same ballpark figure for a nice AM Vantage, which is appealing too. Who knows, will probably put shit off for another year or so, all things I want but really don't need.

If anything should just upgrade the bike to another ZX10.

Meh. The BMW is fun, but want to try something different.

Interesting choice of track car, Tonka.
Too new.

I'm one of the few that loves them. Yes, the headlights don't look as good as the 993/997 but it's still an amazing car. So much fun to drive.

Now is definitely not the time to but a 996TT if you plan on actually driving it. If you plan on taking it out every other Sunday, sure pick one up. You can get a 997.1TT for $15k more.

My buddy buys and sells AMs. Nice cars but I just don't think they're that exciting. The V12 Vantage S was a fun car to drive. Trans is garbage though. Felt identical to the SMG in the E46 M3.

Couldn't imagine maintaining an AM. For that money I'd rather have something new. E46's are interesting buys now, seemed to have bottomed out price wise. If I don't get an M2 I might pick up a E46 for the summer.

Mmmmm, I've never heard such claims. 996 is one of my favorite chassis's next to 930's.

I doubt it will end up being a drivers car. If anything just want something sporty with some spirit for an occasional track day. Really just want a fun weekend / sunny day car.

Realistically Vantage maintenance isn't that far off from a 996. Wouldn't plan on driving either very often that maintenance would be a huge scare anyways.

It's a collaborative project between my father and I. I haven't driven it much because he's been using it as his daily until his 2018 Audi TT is delivered. It's been plagued by electrical problems though and since we switched out the ECU it's been running a lot better. It's got an E30 M3 motor coupled with a manual tranny in it along with suspension, wildwood brakes, etc... Pretty bare bones (stock) inside. Pretty fun to drive, but after you've been used to vehicles that produce torque off of idle, waiting for the power to kick in at 5000 rpm is somewhat tiring. We're probably going to sell it pretty soon.

I've exercised a lot of restraints on recent vehicles. 128i just has some carbon fiber bits. Bike is basically bone stock.

The RSX though, that was a fun easy car to build. Traded it in at a BMW stealership for big red...., nitrous bottle was still half full...., wonder what happened to that car.

Keep it stock til the warranty is up.

I've started keeping an eye out for Z4MCs. They're still over 30k for lower mileage ones.

I tuned my GLI with 8k on the clock. Would have been sooner but that's right when APR released the software for it. New clutch and tires at 13k. Around the same time, I signed up for CTS Turbo's first production run of downpipes and intakes for the gen 3 GLI. Dropped those in around 20k. Coilovers at 20k, as well. Never had a single issue with warranty work. The car is far out of warranty now. It's all about the relationship you build with your SA.

I think the Z4MC is way past rock bottom. Rock bottom was like 3-4 years ago. If you want a low mileage one, better buy it now. They won't get any cheaper. Your best bet is to get one with some mileage. You won't lose money on it and you're not looking at a $30k+ initial investment.

The cheaper ones are really modded and beat up. If I can find one for like $20k, I'd be happy. I know that I'm not keeping stock for sure. I just don't want someone's leftover abused track toy esp with the Vanos issue.

I really wanna drop the M2 and get bucket seats. I feel like I'm sitting way too high compared to my Z4s.

Vanos is an issue on all S54s. Doesn't matter if they are tracked or not. The fix is cheap if you do it preventatively. If you let it become an issue, that's when it's expensive. Same goes for the rod bearings.

Nothing wrong with a modded car either. As long as the mods fit the direction of the car you would want to go, it will actually save you a bunch of money.

Don't buy seats for the M2. Stupid to give up that factory comfort.

As much as it pains me to say this, why not pull the S14 and drop in an S52 or S54? That car would be a rocket.

VANOS unit went out on my 01 E46M. Quoted something like $3k to fix it but the extended warranty from the rod bearing recall took care of it.

Because my father is a stubborned fool sometimes. He wanted to build a car that ran like his 60's era 911s did. I'm like, buy a fucking 60's era 911!!! So this engine has some racy cam in it that is supposed to replicate that driving sensation. Now you can see why i'm not in love with it. I would have done just what you said. Though, the engine builder, a reputable guy says this engine should be putting out around 250hp at the crank. I just don't think it's running right. Smells a little rich and throttle response is somewhat sluggish on the low side of the RPMs. He's got 3 cars now so i'm hoping he'll be ok selling it before the TT is ready. Already have that money earmarked for another type of weekend "toy".
