Not headliner or pillars, just visors, grab handles, srs pillar caps and cargo cover hooks?

I have to offer an alternative to this... And yes, I'll post some pics when I get a chance... I recently completed my interior conversion and I spent MUCH less than that. Granted, my headliner isn't an OEM part, rather a recover from a local shop with OEM material. However, it matches the OEM anthracite pillar pieces I purchased, brand new.

I was able to get the two sunroof shade pieces out without much trouble at all and had those recovered as well. Total cost for my headliner was about $250, OEM material and looks perfect, and its brand new so no worries of it sagging any time soon! I did removal and reinstall myself too, again, not too much work.

As for the other small bits, surprisingly, the visors are the most expensive parts. However, grab those from a wrecked M3 (I got mine from M Parts Worldwide in NJ) and with an M3 you'll have the option of anthracite fabric or the vinyl ones. All of the other smaller pieces can easily be had on eBay. I would say the cargo divider hook latch pieces are somewhat harder to find, but I got mine on eBay UK for about $100 shipped.

KW, Millway, and Powerflex (hopefully) to the rescue next month.
Same here - have owned two 6MT e91 M-sport packages...should have never sold either. The F31 I have now is honestly the perfect size daily, especially with child seats which are a little tight in the e91. MPG is MUCH better with the f31; the engine is much quicker as well with the turbo. Does not sound as good obviously - although with a MPE installed and resonator deleted, mine doesn't sound half bad. Thinking about doing the xdelete for RWD after the CPO is up...

Looks are obviously subjective - I like the LED lights and tech a lot more, but there is something to be said for the e91 short overhangs and a nice m-sport with a single hump dash and 3 pedals.

Holy hell that thing is gorgeous! Nicely done with the 437M wheels and other add ons. Beautiful car!

This is what I’m going to do.
The grab handles and won’t be hard to find. Any 3 series sedan that had m sport package would work.
Did you do the dome lights?
What about the rear passenger reading lights?
The reading lights, cargo cover hooks is what I’m having trouble finding.

Correct, grab handles are all over eBay... M3 sedan or M-Sport 3 series sedan... They're all black.

Dome light is actually one piece that I don't have yet, simply because I keep missing them on eBay.

Rear passenger lights don't matter, they're black anyway with the clear lens. Even in my beige car the unit itself was black.

Cargo cover hook receivers in the headliner are a little harder. There's actually some interesting info about them that I couldn't quite figure out. But, the black ones that I got fit and work perfectly. Long story short, the depth of them varies somehow. Not sure why exactly as I couldn't find the right info, but if you remove one, you'll see there's a depth from the front face (the edge part that goes outside the headliner) to the rear edge where they sit against the metal bracket that the bolts screw into. My beige ones were a little "deeper" than the black ones I have. I'll have to look for the pictures again... Took some in hopes of explaining this, not sure I kept them. But anyway, when I installed the black ones, being that they weren't quite as deep, I had to tighten them a little extra until they seated tight against the metal framework of the roof. It sucked the headliner up a little tighter, but it looks fine and everything is secure. I still don't know what the reason is. The ONLY thing I thought of is maybe the E91 came with a slicktop option in Europe and therefore the headliner was tighter to the framing, making for a shallower cargo hook receiver piece? I'm not sure.

Anyway, spending thousands for OEM parts is just insane. A little bit of work and you can find good used parts at a fraction of the cost.

I personally didn't want to go through the hassle of having to cobble it together, but I agree that most people probably shouldn't go the OEM route. If one can't afford it the point is moot. Some of us desire the OEM look and feel and have no problem paying for it.

I'm not sure if you're trying to sound a little douchey here or if it just comes naturally, but damn dude, that was a dick post...

Not sure why you would suggest most don't go the OEM route as if its ONLY for people of wealth?!? My car is absolutely 100% OEM, I just sourced parts from eBay, forums, and some custom touches as well. My car is done with OEM stuff, I just chose to save money and DIY all of the work so that I could instead spend it on other more fun mods and projects.

Personally, I think my route shows more dedication. Anyone can walk into a dealer and just hand them a list of parts... I prefer the hunt of the parts, specialty European only stuff, and ending up with a custom interior that NOBODY else has.

Either way, I'm glad your headliner was really expensive. You're classier than the rest of us.

Slicktop was standard on E91s and F31s in non-North America markets where the sunroof is an option that not many choose (lucky for them!). Here we're stuck with this massive, heavy, rattly sunroof that takes away almost 2" of headroom and in particular destroys rear seat headroom given the huge length of the sunroof (I'm 6'2" and cannot ride in the rear seat of my E91 without crouching down or leaning to the side).

Ahh well that makes perfect sense! So, yeah, I got my cargo cover roof clips from a slicktop car which makes sense as they came from the UK.

That being said, if slicktop cars do exist, then slicktop headliners exist also.. There are plenty of people to remove and weld up sunroof holes... You could potentially make yours a slicktop.... Personally I like the pano roof. All of my cars have to have sunroofs.

Then again, I'm not 6'2"!

I don't think my tone carries online very well, but I was basically agreeing with you. Let me qualify: I would recommend most people avoid it, provided they can be patient (unlike me) and are willing to do the work (unlike me).

I tend to say things too literally. You said it was insane to spend thousands on OEM parts. My point was that if one can afford it, there's nothing insane about it (one could even say this hobby of ours is insane in ways). You offered an opinion and I offered a riposte. There was no superciliousness intended, and it wasn't a personal attack.

I'm glad your swap came out well, and I applaud you for the custom work and sharing the knowledge. I don't think mine is superior in any way. And I shouldn't have said look and feel when what I meant was being as close to OEM as possible (blame that on a late night post). By OEM route I simply meant ordering the entire kit.

Have a nice day.

Ahh well, THAT makes much more sense. I guess I shouldn't have read and replied at close to midnight after working a 13 hour day as well. My bad!!

I do see how you're wording your post now and I see what you're saying...

Trust me, I would have loved to just stop off at the dealer with a shopping list, but I just couldn't justify the cost.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation now that it is a new day and we all have clearer heads.

Completely agreed. Another forum member was looking at having a delete plug developed and manufactured but I feel the best solution is to buy a slicktop roof skin. Tons of E46 folks have done CSL roofs and there is another forum member that has swapped his E92.

The roof skin is about $1,000 new from BMW and I figure it would be around $3,000 with paint and headliner. I will be going this route with my Sparkling Graphite car should I start down the rabbit hole with it. Right now it has sagging sunroof fabric and I don't want to take it apart (did on an e36, not fun!) or pay someone to fix it (expensive!).

Wow, that's awesome... At least for those that like the slicktop roof!

The guy that carbon roofed his E92 is my buddy Al, he's on the forums here and I've seen his car. Its a beautiful job he did!

As for removing the sunshades, its honestly NOT hard at all. I found a DIY post from an E61 and while not identical, it was actually quite easy... I basically pulled both pieces of glass out from the top, and then slid the shades back and out from the underside. Took me an hour tops to get them both out...? And about 2 to put it back together.. The extra time reassembling was for setting height of the glass, being extra careful not to mess up my freshly covered black sunroof shade pieces, and I had a little trouble getting the back glass to go in right.

Did I take pictures to write up a DIY? No... Of course not. Sorry guys.

Only bad thing is BMW NA will not see EU parts here in NA. You might have a hard time ordering them from dealer.

Agreed, I've heard of that trouble as well. I have a friend that is parts manager at a local dealer, I'll have to inquire and see if he can get the roof skin.

Sorry guys.
Do you happen to have a link to the DIY?

My sunroof shades have sagging liner and I'd like to fix before it comes off completely.

Also hoping that I can figure out a way to tighten up the glass as it rattles... drives me crazy!!!

Thanks!
