ST LOW MOUNT - COMPLETED
Has been quite a while since updating this thread, but that said hardly anyone visits the E90post forum any more. For those who have been following along. The modding still continues After a good 18 month journey the low mount single turbo is finally installed and running. Once again all due to dedication, skill and genius that is Vincent Lim. (thank you mate) Pics below |

Hi Phil. Your not wrong when you say no one looks at this E90 Australia Forum anymore. The new low slung ST looks stealth as you cannot see too much compared to your previous arrangement. Vince has done an excellent job once again. Is there any different in performance or noise from the engine compartment. What coils are you running now? Are they the B58 coils. I see on Page 1, you state Bimmerlife coils but that not them.

Air fuel spark you need all 3. I assume you have plenty of air and fuel in your cylinder. People have made 750whp on eldor coils etc. While I understand the advantage or the higher power coils, they are not required. 'Inexpensive' coils should work fine for you.

No mate
No one can work out what is causing the long crank. Logs all look fine Swapped out the coils and went back to oem Replaced the starter motor, sparks, sensors etc Then we thought it might be a tuning problem, so Tim sent through a few updates but nothing has made a difference Guess Ill have to wait until it fails completely |

All I can think of if the coils are not it would be injectors. Too much or too little fuel injected while cranking. Air fuel spark. You got air(I assume the TB is not closed and obviously the valves in the head are fine) You got spark You got fuel. how annoying.

No smell of fuel in the engine bay which would indicate a leaky injector or something Logs look great, rail pressures etc are fine blah blah Have upped the fueling on start by 20% and have increase the idle rpm to 1000 in the tune Have replaced the starter motor, sparks and sensors Nothing has helped Funny it starts up fine when cold. Only has a long crank once its warm or after it has been started Almost like its getting too much fuel so when it sits for a while it flashes off and starts up ok But when its warm or something its like the engine is flooded and takes a while to kick in...... dunno I am running a flex fuel system in it and in MHD it is reading 10% ethanol even though the fuel in the tank is just regular 98, so there might be a clue there Meanwhile once it starts it is running fine, so hmmmm very strange |

It is certainly a strange fault you are having Socks. On a cold start, the DME doesn't do anything with the information coming from the O2 sensors. Once the engine has been started and run for a couple of minutes, on all following starts, the DME does use the O2 sensor information along with information from the MAP and MAF sensors and so forth. There appears to be something from this information that is causing the issue. A faulty crank sensor could be possible cause.
