I'm new to coding and willing to learn since I replace the original seat with a recarco seat and has need to do coding.... one of my question is:

Can I use Macbook to do it ( I have window 7 in my Mac) I just want to make sure if there's any hardware requirement on coding.

Thank you

Windows 7 works great.

Welp...just ordered my DCAN cable from One Stop Electronics. I guess I'll study, study, study how to code for the next 2 or 3 weeks until my cable gets here.

Thank you so much! Works a treat with my cheap Amazon cable and Win10 64. Very easy to follow instructions and once the 4.5 gig of files were downloaded, would have taken all of about 15 mins to get going. The only thing I had to do outside of the instructions was set compatibility mode to XP SP3 for the tools install.

My cable came in today (ordered 1/7, delivered 1/21).

Now it's time to and do a bit of and try not to destroy my car.

Yeah, I noticed tonight that your previous account was marked as banned; I've been wondering what you did to get banned.

Anyway, I updated my navigation maps from 2010 to 2016 yesterday using USB Ethernet adapter in glove box method to grab 1b file then used FSC to generate code. It took me a while to get that straight and working, so I haven't had a chance to code anything yet. That comes next.

I think the first thing I'm going to try is to make my fog lights come on by default when the car is started (if possible) and to have them stay on when the high beams are activated. Probably next weekend.

I'm sure I will have some questions.

The first of the two is not possible via coding, maybe a hardware hack. If you can figure out the FSC, you can do this!

Can you share what USB Ethernet adapter you used?

I want to send out a big thanks to Joe@TopGearSolutions for his remote coding services.

A while back, I swapped out the rear view for one with home link, compass and auto dim. I also swapped out the side view mirrors for ones that's fold and auto dim.

Joe coded in auto-dimming for the rear view and side mirrors, activated the fold-in feature for the side mirrors, activated the digital speedometer, enabled the mirror fold while holding the lock button, as well as enabling the windows up / down feature via the lock/unlock button on the remote.

The process was really simple and there was great communication through out the process.

I recommend TopGearSolutions for your remote coding service. They're professional and provide great service at reasonable price.

Thanks again Joe.

So I found a better, more complete coding list (excel spreadsheet) for the E9x cars. It has a box next to each year (06-11) to tell you if it works for you and how. The previous google drive one was very old and not complete and did not work for my 07 335i E92. This one did.

Can I provide a link to the download or how does this work?

Also I used the $19 Amazon K- dcan cable to do all the coding and it worked great.

You should probably post a link.

BTW I recently purchased opene90.com and my plan was to put a wiki up there containing all the documentation for this sort of stuff.

Considering I've spent countless hours parsing the information on this forum, I really don't think forums are the best place, long lived, for this sort of information.

If anyone would be interested in contributing let me know. I could stand up the site

Having helped someone (for hours) who tried the cheap option (and it never did work) seriously consider the one-stop-electronics cable. Yes its $100, but it works. You can obviously do what you want. Im just trying to save you time.

Im not sure if anyone has asked this yet, but you guys seem like you'd have it (238 pages later haha). Im resetting a couple of modules in my e90 and there are a couple of weird modules that dont match up in the Winkfp database. I just updated my CAS and ECU and FINALLLYYYY fired up my 325i for the first time in about 4 months. Runs a little rough though .
Modules that have (yyyyy) in the FG-Nummer:
LDM/ICM + TEL/MULF + MOSTGW + MASK/CCC
How do i know which one to update with what ECU family?
Thanks guys.

Post 2 of my DIY is a BMW Standard Tools 2.12 FAQ:

See questions 5 & 6 to determine the proper ECU family in WinKFP.

Can someone recommend a WORKING (not cheap) cable from EBAY.
Live in new zealand so ebay is easiest to buy from overseas.

Or can someone link to a website with worldwide shipping.

Seriously though the cable purchase link should be part of the first sticky topic.
So many people asking
