Exploring options to keep the car clean over the winter and came across Ultima Waterless Wash Plus (UWW+). I was skeptical but decided to give it a try after seeing a ton of positive reviews on detailing forums. I was able to clean the entire exterior in <30 min in the comfort of my garage and I only needed two towels and 8oz of solution. No swirl marks and it even left a nice slick finish. I followed the dilution ratio (1:43) and used this 28oz spray bottle and Kirkland MF towels. $20 for 16oz of concentrate makes 688oz or 5.4 gal which is good for ~75 washes. Heard some scary knocking sounds and found that the lower nut on the LHS front sway bar end link was loose. Not sure if I forgot to torque it or, like my ex, it had gotten loose from being reused multiple times.
I ended up replacing the end links since they're likely due soon. I got Lemforders (OE, made in Turkey) and noticed they use nylock nuts instead. Interestingly, the factory BMW endlinks were made by THK Japan: Last edited by The Nightman; 09-29-2017 at 08:49 PM.. |

Reinstalled the front bumper after having it repainted (12 years of road rash was killing my OCD).
Instead of all black or all chrome, I wanted a slightly different look for the grill. I took the grills apart, and used steel wool (#0000) to sand the chrome off the slats to reveal the black plastic underneath...worked perfectly! Also used the steel wool to buff the chrome grill borders to a nice shine, then re-attached the slats. I like how it turned out. (I will post pics tomorrow.) Also replaced the front upper & rear window sealing gaskets, using plastic trim removal tools. These made it super easy to remove and install the gaskets. All this followed with a good detailing that included a light vinegar solution to get rid of any hard water spots, and sealed the paint with Klasse AIO & SG. Nothing better than seeing clean, shiny Jet Black paint...which can be such a pain sometimes. But its worth it
