The other thing that would be great would be to pre-release Edit to the select family of tuners so that they could have maps ready for us for the release. Eh, as long as Jim has his base map to go with it, that's all I really care about though.

Other than that, hopefully the FAQ will address 29.2 in the near future when testing can be done by Jim on a newly updated car.

Also, as the release date gets closer, I suppose it's pretty much a no brainer that Jim & Co. will let us know WHERE we can buy the kit, since it sounds like he won't be taking orders directly.

According to the FAQ no base tune coming with the SharkEdit.

Thank you.

The base 'map' will be what you pull from the DME. That is your base.

Malek, I know you had some sick cars, so I don't doubt you will make this car wild too. With that said, BMW will throw you under the bus if you go full force on this car like you did on your IS300. I can tell you from experience Lexus is a different company the BMW. Lexus thought it was cool to mod your car, however BMW is a totally different company. They will do everything in their power to deny you a warranty claim. You are playing with fire if you are trying to be the one to crack the DME81. One bad code and you are done. Let the pro's do that and then learn from them.

I never said it was COMING with it, I said to GO with it. I merely said that I would get Jim's tune. I also realize the FAQ said he's not tuning cars. All of this info is very conflicting. Earlier in this thread it is mentioned several times that Jim is making a safe base tune around 12 psi that would come on a SI, so why wouldn't that map be available to add to the cart when purchasing an SE?

If Jim won't have a base tune for sale at launch, then the SE will be pretty useless for quite some time...unless you just want to tinker with settings yourself and blow up your car.

I'm not quite sure if Jim ever officially announced an N54 tune. There were/are some rumors floating around here though. He may have mentioned he had his own 335i at 12psi at Bfest.

I have discussed with him a few times a need for a tune for the N54 people. He has a reputation for being one of the greatest in the industry. Seems like a wonderful platform to make a safe tune for. I'll bother him some more about it.

But, on a different note. There are tons of OTHER capable tuners out there that just dont have the technical side figured out like Jim does. That is where he is kind of aiming the SharkEdit. Let these other guys who can tune a car do it.

Can we attach a Shark Edit to Justn's & Jim's Head and transfer some info about the Shark Edit?

That's about as close to a cloning as I can come up with.

I really roffled at this.

BTW, in the FAQ in the N54 section, it should read "you reap what you sow" not "sew" which doesn't make any sense at all

If our new tuning guru thinks the FBI is champing at the bit to enforce the DMCA on his behalf - well, suffice it to say that offenders' rectums are not likely to be violated any time soon - at least not from a stint in federal prison for violation of the Act.

Jim isnt one to let someone else do his dirty work.

He never implied that. In fact, he said if anyone is caught stealing the IP of another, he would HELP prosecute them.

I would've helped prosecute in my case too. They just weren't interested. Maybe the enforcement agency in Jim's neck of the woods gives more of a damn than mine do. Of course maybe my incident just wasn't as important as DMCA. Someone didn't think my life is as important as I do and conveyed that to me online. I even helped them track the IP.

Not that I don't think people should be prosecuted. My experience just doesn't instill confidence that they will.

And...exactly how does one figure out how to tune your car with the SharkEdit s/w? Is it as easy as typing in...ok, 14.5psi boost...yeah, that's what I want OR do you have to set ~ 100 parameters (most of which are coded in such a way that it means absolutely NOTHING to a reg. guy)?

I mean at least with PROcede v3, Shiv figured everything out based on the hardware tuning box (PROcede) and all the end user has to do is download the new firmware, map, and set the TQ Curve (boost) according to Shiv's recommendations. Sorry, but I'm still confused with J.C.'s SharkEdit and SharkInjector. Please tell me...I would like to know.

I think we'll have to wait until the product(s) *SharkEdit* are on the market &/or the SharkEdit forum is launched. Perhaps there's a GUI that allows user customization with "recommendations", perhaps there isn't ....

Guys, it's not as simple as most here think. The economics of massive warranty liability are too great to fathom.
I doubt that's the case, as so many of Audi and VW's engines are and have been over the years turbo engines, and they've been tuned too. If it was just like that, they'd have not stayed in the turbo market. The reality is that a small percentage of overall buyers end up tuning their cars probably, small enough that it's not going to change a car manufacturer's designs. If it's simple enough to lock out the tuners, they'll do it, like BMW seems to have done, but I doubt they'd go as far as changing the engines they put in ours b/c of this.

Why is it so hard for people here to understand the difference between a Shark Injector and the Shark Edit software?

The Shark Edit software is for tuners to make thier own flashes. Anyone from Shiv to Jim C. to John Q. Public will have the ability to write a flash for several BMW ECUs, OBD1 and OBD2.

The Shark Injector is the method for delivering a flash easily once it is created. Most people on this board who do not want to mess with settings and want a good safe tune without getting their hands dirty will purchase a flash via a Shark Injector from a tuner, again Jim C., Shiv, or a local tuner that you trust. The process is simpler than installing or setting up a Procede.
