I am not sure but the thought behind this may be that it was a hiccup or idnt really happen. They clear it and then if it happens again they do something. When they clear the code maybe that is when the new software goes in. The new software is somewhat suspicious to me. After I got it installed I did not get the codes i had been getting for so long. There was nothingmechanical changed and the car still drove just like it did before, idled rough and uneven, sluggish pulling from a stopand a little lesss power just no fault codes. What if the software changed the level at which the pump would throw a code and raised that level reducing the sensitivity so it would no throw a code until it was at a higher level of problems and at the same time take a little power out of the engine. That combination would ease some stress on the pump and stretch its lifespan. Sounds like history repeating itself. I think that the 29.2 mess was done as the fiurst atttempt to hide the pump problem and to see if they could keep them goping by easing up on them.
Too much work and research went into that for just a rattle.

Software to fix a hardware problem

When they just did mine, they pulled all 6 injectors and pressure tested them. They all passed, so they were all put back in. Got the new HPFP and software.

Got my recall letter in the mail and I'm bringing mine in tomorrow morning. I'm hoping and praying they get this HPFP replacement and software update right the first time.
It's been running fine ever since I bought it brand new and I don't want to have to deal with this issue.

We'll see.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I bought my 2007 335i used in September 2010 @ 35k miles and as far as I know there haven't been any HPFP issues on this car, still running on the original pump. I also didn't get the recall notice in the mail since my name is not registered with BMW since I haven't taken it in for service yet.

Would you guys recommend taking it in for the voluntary recall and getting the pump/software updated as a precaution (while still under original warranty - 2 months left), or should I take the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach and just let it ride until there is an actual issue with it (covered under HPFP 10yr/120k warranty)? FYI I did purchase the Platinum BMW extended warranty so I should be covered if anything else should fail (injectors, etc.).

I don't understand how people get a recall letter on a 2010 build which supposedly not affected when my car was in the affected time frame 5/07 build and I don't get a letter. BMW really has their shit together now don't they.

I had my pump replaced about a year ago when I was still living in Germany. I started having long cranks again about two months ago...but took the car in for regular service, and they said that I needed the software. They had to keep the car overnight because it failed to load correctly the first time. Knock on wood, but so far after about three weeks, it seems good to go...

My 2010 was actually built on November 2009 so technically it's a 2009, but I'm hoping my 335 is not one of the effected vehicles.

Anyway, you should be getting a letter because, in the letter I received, it states the recall affects 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 model years.
Are you the original owner of your vehicle? If so, then BMW would have all your information to get in contact with you. Same goes if you bought it used from a BMW dealer.

Now if you bought your car used from a non-BMW dealership, they may not be able to contact you because you're not the original owner and they don't have your information so it's your responsibilty to contact them about any recalls.

That is just my assumptions, but whatever case may be, if you haven't been contacted about the recall, I would go ahead and contact your local dealer and bring it in if you haven't done it already.

My wife just took mine in for recall (since I am in Kosovo). All they did was the fuel pump for me. She turned it in around 11 and picked it up at 3. No reprogramming or anything, fuel pump only. Looks like I am in the same boat as you Gizmo.. I was having no issues with the car before I left for here, 6k miles. Hopefully the issues don't start now.

So I never got a letter on a 5/07 build but as someone suggested I called BMWNA yesterday. They told me to make an appointment because the injectors need to be inspected, nothing about the HPFP. I'm going in next Tuesday. I only have 16,000 miles but have never had a problem. I just know they will F___ it up but wanted to establish that they have worked on it before my original warranty runs out in May. If I have to go back 5 times for related issues I want a record of their incompetence.

Just got my letter

Wow, Oct 2010 was the announcement date and I just got the letter after how many months?

My car has no issues at all. I am afraid that taking it in will actually cause problems.

i'm in the same boat, they just ripped out a working HPFP w/ no issues, or codes "at all". or should i say "so far". b/c that is the issue, you never know where and when you too will become a victim of the dreaded failure. don't know how many injectors i might get, if any. but software for sure.

I took my 2010 in yesterday. They checked the low pressure sensor and it was fine. They checked the HPFP and replaced it with the new one, 446, and reprogrammed the control unit. There was no indication in the invoice that they replaced the injectors so I'm assuming they were fine.
They also did the free oil change since I had not had it done yet.

Well, this is it. I've had my 335 for a year and two months (10,650 miles) now and I'm hoping and knocking on wood that they did everything right the first time. I have not had any major problems with my car and I hope it stays that way.

Took mine in today for round one of the prize fight. I never got a letter so I had called BMWNA last week and they said that my HPFP was fine and did not need to be inspected but my injectors did. I went to my freindly BMW dealer today and they said not that we can't inspect the injectors just the HPFP. And so the story begins. I had no problems with either so I'll see what they can screw up.

HPFP and rear right signal light error

Made the appt and dropped off the car this morning.
Advisor said HPFP and firmware update are needed.
And, I told her that the rear right signal light errored out as well.

She also confirmed that the HPFP that will be installed is new and not re-manufactured. She said BMW has gone thru 4 different versions of the HPFP.

Anyone seen the rear right signal light error on their console for a 2 year old 335i? Couldn't believe my eyes that the signal light cannot even last for 2 years.

So, are you saying that they truly have not found a real fix for this issue yet?
The official recall was just done to soothe the uproar from the ABC News coverage?

Putting reman parts back into circulation seems unprofessional and certainly does not match the image of the BMW badge!

Ran out of HPFP

Just got a call telling that they ran out of HPFP.

I thot the whole point about making an appt is that the workshop will have the parts ready even before my car arrives? Recalls are identified with a serial# and they know exactly how many cars are coming in for the recall and how many parts they need.

Furthermore, isn't the car equipped with connection via cell-network to Internet and the stats of the car is supposed to be uploaded to the workshop before I arrive?

All these pre-arrival information simply are not getting thru, I guess, for the parts to be understocked.

This is my 1st BMW recall experience and it is beginning to suck!

I am one of those that think the recall was a way to get the media and the owners who saw the news off their backs. The owners that follow the forums and are up to date with what is happening are not the majority so the recall would appease the masses but leave the vocal minoritystill scratching their collective nuts.
That is just the opinion of a cycnical and somewhat jaded bmw owner.
As far as this being your first recall experience, I hope that it is your only one as well.
