it wouldnt make sense to forgive debt... if anything, they should form a general fund to pool the payments that wouldve been made to the banks and restructure

I refinanced my mortgage 2 years ago and got a pretty good rate from indy mac......and I didnt have to pay mortgage tax because it was credited from my previous mortgage with WAMU

but that wouldnt make sense because it would give the government control and these are private corporations... so perhaps a private corp do to the same thing.. idk..

A lot of banks and mortgage companies make deals with homeowners to forgive some debt in order to keep them in the house and having a costly foreclosure.

Indy has already failed; the gov't has taken them over. People effectively pulled out their cash leaving Indy unable to meet it's financial obligation. When is unable to fund it's liabilities => Gov't to the rescue. Sort of the Bear Stearns deal, just replace JPM with the US Government.

With respect to your mortgage you will be paying IndyMac FSB (Federal Savings Bank). Nothing will be forgiven.
