i little help from greece.
i am a vet from greece. another disappointed owner of an E-90 Lci, that from day one i am experiencing hesitating problems etc, that as it seems you well know. i would like to contribute a few more information concerning our bmw issue. after personal research , and after changing coils injectors, exhaust camshaft sensors, remapping of ecu, etc, no problem has been solved. so after 7 month ownership of this car i found out some issues. the same moter N-43 is the same with the N-43 used in 520 saloon which seems not to experience the same problems. authorised bmw dealers here i greece have the same approach with uk dealers so i will not comment. i have ordered a new luft meter, because i have heard some funny noises from the electronic butterfly plate when my car was idling. has anyone changed this part? has anyone changed ECU, in order to have information if this is the root of the problem? forgive me about my english.... |

if you measure the incoming air flow during idling, you will see that when you hear this ticking noise, from a baseline measurement of 8kg/h you will reach 23kg/h, which is obviously wrong... Thank god my mechanic( bmw specialist- not a dealer) helped me see this air flow measurements and now he ordered a new luft in order to replace mine without charging me the cost!!!!!(thats why i love greek attitude. he said that he has to pay something for his own education matters-meaning to exclude a possible cause). all of these happened after authorised dealers refusal to replace my luft meter. |

It's worrying to read this thread. I have mine (E90 phase2) for 6 months now 8000km.
Some mild points: - hesitating in low revs or kick down. - idling: sounds somewhat like diesel engine. Guess it's normal. Otherwise OK. Fuel consumption is reasonable: 7.5l/100km with average 55km/h. Wait and see... |

Four new injectors, new spark plugs and coils on two cyclinders, new NOx sensor and a cat regeneration. (That's in addition to the previous software upgrade, throttle flap, engine wiring harness....) On the drive home it was best its ever been and recorded 40mpg average - never seen more than 34 before. Seems perkier too. I have my finger, toes, legs arms and everything else crossed that this will finally work. I'd forgotten how much I like driving it, especially after the 318i SE courtesy car (59 plate <3500 miles and also a bit hesitant and damn sluggish) |

I've had my cat replaced back in October 09. Lost a lot of power back then.

Check for carbonisation in valves. There may be a carbon build-up on some internal valves. Get her checked in at the dealer. I had hesitation when putting my foot down on my 325i (was only like half a second) not anymore.

'Fraid not - it's crap.
Back to missing and hesitation. Was thinking about changing the MAF myself, just to rule it out, but why should I spend £230.... Just about to book it back in - this may be the last time as I'm going to say I don't want it back unless it's fixed - PERMANENT! Such as shame as apart from this, it's great. |

if an ecu replacement does not work, then i guess we have electrical leakage from somewhere that confuses the operation of the vehicle. by the way does your rest button works properly? because mine is not. |

I've just checked what your car looks like, in case you'd bought my old one, but you've not *Phew*

despite this, i have changed a few things from the car but no good results. i tend to believe now that they are right. either ecu is not working well or we have an electical leakage from somewhere. |

Ok.... amber engine warning light is back on again. The car has managed just over 6 weeks since the last visit. I'm now seriously thinking I've had enough of this car. It is out of warranty in June and I don't see why I should have to pay for a warranty to cover the cost of running an unreliable car. Reading the recent posts, it doesn't look like anyone has yet come up with an answer to permanently make the problem go away, other than 'get rid of the car!'. I pity the poor person who buys it next. Ho hum.
I'll report back if the garage come back with any new solutions. Its booked in next week. |

I actually think that there's a few problems to the car rather than one main cause. These are the things I have noticed over 18 months with my car: 1) If it's windy outside I think the car seems to struggle with air intake and stutters 2) If I drive through a large puddle or very heavy rain the car will stutter on acceleration (as if a sensor is getting wet and confused) Or sometimes if I've gone through a car wash!! 3) If I use supermarket fuel (or a low grade) the car doesn't drive as smooth 4) Sometimes it just has a tantrum and stutters for no reason, but restarting the car seems to solve this 5) Sometimes the car kangeroos in 2nd gear (this reduced dramtically after my software update but I can feel its gagging to do it sometimes) 6) If I've driven the car really gently for say 750+ miles it starts to stutter but taking it for a blast clears it out (maybe this is the carbon build up they keep going on about??) So, with this in mind, I don't wash my car as much or drive through large puddles, I tend to use Shell VPower & plant my foot more often, but I know myself in my previous 320i i think once you've had a major problem it'll never be right again. Mercedes are currently having huge problems with their new efficiency engines, so now I'm holding back to see if there are any problems with the new effecient Audis.

i believe, bmw must rename the engine series to (inefficiency dynamics). greek mercedes benz owners especially for the well sold 1.6lit motor do not have problems. i am pretty confident that audi effecients will be reliable. i am disappointed from my 320.( it is obvious i guess) my final call is to find a used-empty ecu which will be programmed and fitted just to rule out this possibility. of this doesnt work i will replace the car with something else. now they are eager to change them with the old 5 series as lons as they have the new 5 series arriving. |
