I’ve ventured into whiskies recently started with a Macallan 18 at a friend’s 40th that was nice. I’ve recently ventured into the Japanese whiskies like the Hibiki and the Toki (Toki was cheap in Sainsburys a few weeks ago). My favourite has to be the Jameson or the Tullamore Dew, both are relatively inexpensive and readily available at bars/restaurants. Also have Johnny Walker Blue that was smooth, I’ve got a bottle of JW Gold and Dewars 15.

I’m not a fan of the grain stuff.

I've also ordered a splurge bottle from the LCBO at a price point I've never bought in before, should take a week to arrive. Going to get the Glenfarclas 25 year old. I'll see what like that is - better be good at $270 / bottle! But just to really depress me about the insane cost of liquor up here, what does the Glenfarclas 25 year old cost in the States?
You will love it. On a side note, I've tried two others recently that I absolutely loved, but cannot find available anywhere near me. You can't ship liquor into my state online, so it limits me to my local stores.

Check out:

Auchentoshan Three Wood - this was absolutely stellar!

Glenrothes 2001 - This was also excellent, but not as good as the Auchentoshan.

I've had offerings from both of those distilleries, but not those specific ones, so I'll keep my eye out. I can't remember which ones I had, both were decent, but not anything remarkable when I had them last.

So that's the thing - I 100% agree with that statement. The Auchentoshan I've had in the past was decent, but nothing special. The 3 Wood blew my doors off. Same as the Glenrothes, good - but nothing out of the ordinary. But the 2001 edition was very nice.

So my sis wants to get her hubby something similar to Jamison 18. He has had red breast before. Any suggestions?

Costco has Glenlivet 18 for $90 (California). That’s a good one. They also have 14 and 15 pack for $90. The 15 has pretty amazing reviews.

Yellow spot would be decent. Glendalough also good. Shame it is limited to Irish.

I'm with joker on this, both of the ones you listed are Irish so look for yellow, red, or blue spot or red breast cask strength as a good purchase. Jamison 18 is probably similar price and hard to find as the red or blue spot. Sadly, Irish really isn't one of my strong suits as I don't enjoy it as much as others.

My local Costco has Orphan Barrel 24yr Muckety-Muck. I don't know much about it, and there aren't many reviews.

Interesting. I haven’t seen that one before. Will have to check it out.

Question: do you guys think High West’s Midwinter Night Dram is worth $200. I’ve had it before and while it was very smooth and good, just not sure if worth it. Tempted to buy a bottle though.

IMO, no that's too expensive. I'm happy to have it in my collection at MSRP of $100, but I don't think it's worth twice that.

One of my go - to stand bys. Nothing particularly special about it - but a good solid single malt at a very reasonable price.

I agree with Haze - I think $120 shipped is about normal rate but anything over that is just gouging IMO. It is good but I don't think there is much out there actually worth $200.
