She was raised by irresponsible parents. Her poor decisions now are only the tip of the iceberg. I know you feel its your duty to help her, but this will end up costing you big in the future. Take this from a guy who "knew better."

You're young and won't take our advise, but I'm obligated to say this: Eject!

OP, if you're also upside down on your car, your fiance can't realistically look at you as knowing more than her and that she should be doing what you say. Without any knowledge of your incomes, life styles, other expenses, etc... I'd say that you may want to look into also getting rid of your car.

She may not have any money saved to buy a car in cash, but if you're willing to help, she can most likely get into a used Corolla or Civic and have very low payments that will still allow her to save money or lower her debt burden.

But if that's his fiance and he loves her, and they have a life together, shouldn't he try to help her instead?

Not all of us are born with financial knowledge. Not all of us had financially responsible parents, relatives or friends to learn from. So you may be right that her parents were irresponsible, but that's not her fault.

If she understands that she needs to learn how to manage her money, and is willing to learn how to do so and take the necessary steps, then I think OP should do what he can to help his fiance become more financially responsible.

I was looking at a report recently and it seemed like my Amex was dinging me because they don't have credit limit/usage info as there's no technical "limit." Is that always the case?

It would really suck to not get that great new job because of credit reporting that can be fixed with some time and effort.
Saved several guys careers by helping them fix their credit during my time in the military, pain in the a$$ but it can be done.
Credit is a dog chasing a tail.

I must borrow money to build a credit score.
I need a credit score to borrow money.

800+ credit score means I have payed 100k or more in interest to get that score. Life should be more than this game we play with the banks

One of my CC's monitors it. Every time is changes it sends me an email with the score. Pretty neat feature.

I hope this is not the first time u have seen this number.

funny how it's easier to keep track of a score number than to do the math on the money it takes to acquire said score.

My credit score is over 800 and I haven't spent anywhere near that amount in interest.

It's all relevant to where you start of course. But I doubt you are really that far

Another factor they use is, total accounts. I only have 3 CC's and that comes up as POOR, less than 10 accounts. I dont wanna have a bunch of credit cards.
